Myself, My Husband & our 13 year old son arrived at Melini on 18/9/25 excited for our for 2 week stay after reading mostly excellent reviews online beforehand. I could see the hotel had a lot of repeat guests, year after year so thought this will be a good one. We were allocated room 204.||Upon arrival, the room smelt very clean and appeared fairly modern, I began unpacking where I discovered lots of areas were extremely dirty (mainly with dust and sand) so I cleaned the room myself, to my own standard. I was told by the receptionist cleaners weren't available until the next day and I wasn't allowing me or my family to stay in that. I took my (was) white socks to show her them, and told her a newly checked in room shouldn't result in this. It should be immaculate and thoroughly cleaned. She did apologise and said she would note it for the cleaner the next day. The floor, in particular, was filthy so I got down on my hands and knees with Antibacterial wipes to clean it. Some areas (under the luggage table, under the beds & in corners in particular) seemed to have not been cleaned in months. The dining table had tobacco all over it (either from a previous guest or from the cleaner when she had finished work, we don't smoke ourselves) the skirting boards all over were disgusting. The mugs, cutlery & glasses in the cupboard all had to be re-washed before use. I cleaned the floors again myself during the middle of our stay when they just felt really grubby, I also went to the shop and bought bleach for the bathroom. The cleanliness in this particular room was extremely poor, whether it hadn't been used or cleaned in months, or this is the usual standard, im unsure. Word of advice- take a pair of slippers/sliders to wear in the room or your feet will be very dirty. ||The cleaner did come in very early, as requested, the next morning. She emptied the bins, swept and mopped, but rooms do have corners, not just walkways where people pass through and I could see this was the issue. It was unfortunately, half a job. Maybe a dustpan & handbrush would be appreciated in the rooms so guests can keep on top of this themselves if they wish. ||The beds, for us and our preference, are extremely uncomfortable. The "Sofa Bed" if you can call it that, was as hard as the floor. It had no proper mattress on it. How a 3rd person is expected to sleep on that is beyond belief. I had read online that mattress toppers were available on request so I asked the receptionist if we could have them placed on for bed time. "From where?" I was rudely asked. I would expect any member of staff at all times to have access to things guests would request. The attitude from this particular girl on our first evening was not the correct way a paying guest should be spoke to, so yes, my attitude back mirrored hers. The mattress topper request was honoured the next morning. ||We were directly opposite the cleaners room, there was loud chatting from them from 7/7.30am and the smell of cigarette smoke from this room all day (despite it been a non smoking hotel inside) was disgusting. ||The towels never smelt fresh even when they were changed for clean ones. I think the issue here is that they are only changed twice a week as standard (extra changes available at a cost) and as they are getting wet, then dried a few times without been washed, over the seasons they've become extremely unpleasant. A clean, fresh smelling, white fluffy towel should be whats available like every other hotel I've stayed in. Maybe new ones for the next season would be nice. ||The pool, as mentioned in previous reviews, and as we expected, is in the shade for a lot of the day. The sunbeds are all on top of each other towards the road side of the pool as people are (rightly so on holiday!) chasing the sun. A lot of the sunbeds (especially the older blue ones) had a lot of bird poo on them. We spent the majority of our holiday at the beach or at other accommodation that allows non residents whilst paying for food and drinks at their bar. ||We knew as self catering guests that any kitchen essentials wouldn't be provided so make sure to take washing up liquid, cloths & scrubbers and also kitchen towels. There's no draining board so an extra one for after washing up worked well laid on the worktop. Kettle, toaster, microwave and hob is provided. We used Best Buy over the road for milk (yellow top is British green top) water & snacks. We ate out for all our meals and highly recommend Oscars for steak, All American for pulled pork, Happy Days for breakfast & Apse Svise for Gyros. Our favourite bars were La Pas, Waves & Q bar. ||The food and staff in Island Affair on the one lunch time we tried it were fantastic. So friendly, and the food was really tasty & fairly priced.||We spent a few nights in Rockafellas where we had a great time watching the entertainment & football or rugby on one of many T.Vs. This is a great place for sport, many thanks for putting on games that weren't even advertised outside. All staff in here were lovely. ||The location of the hotel is what sold it for me. Absolutely perfect in the middle of the strip, 5 minute walk to beautiful Fig Tree Bay. It was a 40 minute walk (or 2 hours with a couple of stops at the lovely bars on the seafront) to Pernera from the hotel and €13 back in a taxi after midnight. ||We paid €15 per week plus €10 deposit for the safe & €10 deposit for the TV in the living room. We received our deposit back on departure. ||I highly recommend hiring a buggy to see some beautiful places- Green Bay, Konnos Beach, Blue Lagoon, Ayia Napa Marina, Makronissos beach, sea caves, and don't miss sunset at Cape Greco. We hired our 3 seater Buggy from Prot-R-us Moto on the top road (opposite Ripples) and it cost €160 for 24 hours. We parked around the back of the hotel overnight. ||I also recommend climbing the 160 steps up to Profitis Elias Church (take the road opposite Star Leisure on the top Road, right past Sphinx) to see the sunset over Protaras, absolutely beautiful and you can hang a ribbon for a loved one on the tree. ||You can see from my previous reviews over the years on Trip Advisor. I'm not one to complain, but this is probably the dirtiest room I've stayed in and unfortunately for that reason we wouldn't return or recommend this hotel. I did not complain further during my time here as I just wanted to get on with my holiday rather than spending time at reception discussing issues with staff and feeling uncomfortable. My feedback form was handed in on check out.||Cyprus is a beautiful place & we will be back...
Read moreI would say that our stay here was average. The hotel itself is clean, spacious rooms - However, we had a 10 month old baby with us and we had to shower her while staying here for 1 week which was a nuisance. My mum had stayed here in June, and had advised me there are baths in some rooms, why these rooms are not prioritised for families baffles me. We had requested a similar room to hers from last time, this was requested via email and phone on several occasions, as well as requesting a transfer for 4 and a car seat. Luckily, I brought a car seat with me as when we landed no transfer was organised even though it had been confirmed. We had to them either wait 40-60 mins on transfer from melini to come and get us or pay 150 euro for a taxi which we went for this as again we had a 10 month old baby. |Upon arrival, there was no apologies for no transfer greeting us just excuses from the blonde woman who seems to work at nights in this hotel. Very unfriendly lady. Everything was not her fault or hotels but the guests. We had messages to prove the request and she kept saying we didn't or it is morning persons responsibility. |Also upon 2 times room key just cut off and I had to bring pram baby and all my beach stuff back down and up, first time of course no issue but 2x in 1 day? Issue. I had asked why this was happening to get no response just a handed key card returned. |Also, we had requested to keep a room the night before leaving so we could keep it all day on our last day, brown haired girl told us needs to be made days in advance However she will try her best (nice girl) - she made a note in a book and told me to call back around 11pm, that was fine. I called just after 11 to be greeted by the blonde woman from the first night. No smiles, not friendly and could not help me with the information or request. Said again nothing she can do to help, also slammed her hand on desk at me with a sleeping baby in pram, very inappropriate. We got no answer on the room until the next morning when different staff member appeared..|Also only 1 room key card, inconvenient when you have someone who wants to stay out and someone who is going home with a baby. I had requested a spare one for 1 night as my mum had mine and I went home with sleeping baby, this was such a deal, and had been told 3-4 times to bring it back and had even questioned why I needed it where my mum was with ours. Bit weird..|Also soooo many signs up of warnings and rules, plastered all over the walls and lifts, bit much and feels very strict. There was one stating smoking in any room was illegal yet I walk down the corridor out of my room with my baby and 4 cleaners sitting in stairwell smoking. You could smell it in hall. |Bins also not changed every day, nappies from baby smelling. |Bedding also wasn't changed. |TV remote, 10 euro per day I believe yet you can turn it on at the tv, just a bit greedy.|Towels are also strict. |All in all, hotel was fine, but staff were disappointing, unfriendly and I would not recommend for babies. |Will try someone...
Read moreCurrently staying at the Melini, we have been here for a week and feel very lucky that we still have 3 more nights here.|This is my honest review. ||Reception. We were welcomed on arrival like we were old friends. Every single person on reception has been wonderfully warm and helpful. We are asked daily how we are enjoying our stay and reminded to speak to the team if we need anything.||The room. We asked for a low floor and a walk in shower. We were given a lovely and spacious room on the2nd floor that has a lovely sea view and a lovely atmosphere of an evening as we received overlooking Rockafellas. If we close the door, we can't hear any noise at all. Our room was spotless on arrival and has a great little kitchen and fridge. It also has the walk in shower we requested.|We've had a couple of minor issues within the room, that have been dealt with incredibly quickly and with a smile.|The beds are very comfortable. Im sleeping on the sofa bed which is quite hard, but that suits me and you can ask for a mattress topper at reception. ||Housekeeping. The ladies are lovely and very thorough in their cleaning. My kids love a lie in so the ladies are happy to come back at a later time. We go to the beach most days so obviously bring some sand back with us, but I can honestly say that our room has been kept spotless, probably cleaner than my own home.||The Pool. What a vibe! My kids love it. Yes people reserve certain sunbeds at silly o'clock but we haven't had an issue getting a couple of loungers at any time of the day. Half of the area does become shaded in the afternoon, personally, I love it, as Im not here to sunbathe, Im here to watch my kids have fun. The whole area is super clean. A lot of the guests are regulars here and are super friendly.||The bar. Wonderful staff who are friendly, remember your drinks orders, ask how your day is and always with a smile. They work with the icecream bar to provide crepes, waffles and icecream around the pool area.||Island Affair. Wow, the food is delicious, service is warm and welcoming and I found incredible value for money. So far we have tried pasta, pizza and the ribs. Huge portions and freshly made. I should also comment on the fresh from the oven bread rolls that were complimentary, literally melted in the mouth.||Overall, this is a great hotel, run by wonderful people. The location is perfect, the people are warm and welcoming and there is truly nothing I can find fault with. To those that can find fault, id suggest if you want 5 star facilities, full, guaranteed sea view etc, that you should book a 5 star hotel that will charge you double what Melini does, because I paid a lot more last year for a hotel in majorca with a higher star rating and I would choose Melini over that one hands down every...
