I was looking for somewhere off the beaten track with a traditional style. This place fitted the bill perfectly. Having never been to the Czech Republic before let alone Brno, I found the fronts of bars and restaurants a bit weird .This one is no different, it’s like going through someone’s front door. I was here for work so I just wanted somewhere that did local food and boy did I find it! I asked for a beer and was served half a pint with half a pint of head, but it soon settled and it was delicious. The server spoke great English and really helped me out. The starter was called Čabajkovou klobásu I think, a delicious smoked sausage with mustard, some sort of cabbage? and some marinated chillies. This was right up my street and a superb start to the meal. Main course I had Svickova (?) which was a slice of beef, beautifully pink in the middle yet so tender I could pull it apart, some unbelievably light bread, similar to a bao bun, a delicious dumpling and some sort of amazing gravy. Honestly it was one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever eaten. If you’re in Brno I would 100% recommend it. Don’t expect music or any frills, but be prepared to have your taste buds tantalised!!! Read moreA great choice if you are looking for a traditional czech place where both the food and beer is on a good level. . The service felt a bit cold at the start but gradually improved. They have english menu and accept cards. . The meals were really tasty. My only observation is that "svickova" comes with lots of dumplings and very little meat. You shall definitelly try their duck liver patte! . Beer is good, wine as well- however i found it odd that they first pre-poured it into a measuring glass and only then to the glass foe serving..it felt a bit cheap as if every lost drop counted. Also they used white wine glass for red wine which always feels a bit sloppy.
Overall i think that this is a great place to visit, especially if you want to escape the crowd in the city center. There ia a nice...
Read moreWe visited this traditional restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. Got there a little bit before opening times so we had a short stroll around the block. 10 minutes after they opened the place was already almost full. Ordered beers and food and waited an hour to eat, but it totally worth it. We had perfectly cooked Meaty Pork Ribs served with mustard and horseradish, delicious Duck Leg Confit with cooked pickled cabbage and homemade dumplings, a side salad with freshly cut tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, red onion and vinaigrette dressing. What we liked the most was their Beefsteak tartar served with buttery fried bread and garlic to rub your slices of bread. Experienced and attentive waiters. A must visit if you like restaurants with character and want to try local food...
