After complaining about the lack of decent Chinese food in this town, Yi East suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Having lived in North America and New Zealand which have large populations of Chinese people (and therefore easy access to Chinese food) and having been to China a few times, I can attest to the fact that the Chinese food served here is authentic and delicious! The benefit of it being pretty much the only decent option in this small city, is that they have tapped into a huge gap in the market by feeding customers with dishes spanning different regions across China - from Hunan to Sichuan to Guangzhou - and it is amazing. There is no need to restaurant hop to sample different regional Chinese dishes. When the wait staff apologize for the lack of variety in their numbing sichuan peppercorns, then one knows one has hit the jackpot! Also, with 3 high quality Chinese tea options (oolong, puerh and jasmine) rather than the generic "chinese tea" often found in Western Chinese restaurants, you can trust that even your beverage choice will match what one finds in Chinese restaurants abroad. No, I am not being paid for this review. I just want to make sure this place stays open for as long as humanly possible because this restaurant is basically my...

We arrived a bit after their recommended time. The food wasn't ready for another 30mins or so. When I thought it was ready, they almost handed me someone else's order if I hadn't verified what's in it...
Real surprise was in the taste -- all rather subpar food (Pan fried dumpling, shrimp dumpling soup, roast chicken, and tofu and seafood clay pot). There wasn't a single item that was tasty unfortunately. The pork dumpling had that "incorrectly cooked pork aroma". The others were missing that well-balanced multi-flavors of traditional Chinese food around the world. They all seemed bland (incorrect saltiness) and one-dimensional. The clay pot was supposed to be tofu and "seafood". It was 95% tofu and the rest, mushrooms and seafood -- 3 small pieces of calamari (legs) and several slices of mushrooms. Seafood means -- shrimp, calamari, fish, scallop, clams, etc., of combo. The dish was totally unlike their photo, where it shows huge chunks of calamari (trunk). Quite disappointed...
Read moreCame here with a group of friends earlier in August, looking for a great dining experience, and that is exactly what we got! We ordered a bunch of different starters to share, and roughly as many mains (also for sharing), and ended up finishing everything but one of the mains. Most of the dishes were great, while I found a few to be just OK. My favourite starter was the “classic dumplings” which had an amazing sauce, and my favourite main was the lamb with cumin.
The staff were welcoming, attentive and accommodating. They guided us through the admittedly messy menu(s) and helped us find vegan options for the vegan member of our party. They were always around when we needed more to drink, and the only time we had any issues was when they asked if they should refill our rice, and then didn’t come back, but that was resolved when the next staff member came by to check on us some...
