The Copenhagener — Restaurant in Helsingør Municipality

It's a Danish "seaside" beer garden akin to a dive bar. And it delivers, in spades. This part of Denmark has not changed since the uninvited neighbours to the South left on 5th May 1945 - the people are old, gnarled, talk as if they have 11 lbs of potatoes in their cheeks, and are gruffly incomprehensible. Peak Denmark in fact. Without the peeling thin veneer of sophistication you can see, here and there, in Copenhagen.

Amazing contrast to sanitised Helsingborg in Sweden, barely 5 km across the Oresund by ferry.

Honestly. This was a joke. What a disappointment. The smorrebrod was horrible. Shrimps was like water, tasted nothing and probably came from a cheap can that’s been frozen too long. The pan fried fish tasted nothing as well. Have been here many years ago and it was ok. But today it was utterly horrible. Don’t go here if you want to taste a wonderful smorrebrod. Go to the city of Copenhagen where the proper stuff is...

The poor review is purely the result of rude treatment. We went in shortly before 10pm, and having seen the reviews of good meals, we asked if they still had food. The bartender told us no, then, as though she had been mortally offended, exclaimed, "Food?!!! We're a pub! Why would we serve food in the evening?!!"
