Insanely overpriced. Insane. I assumed it was so expensive because it would be good. Nope. I got the soup of the day - cauliflower - and an empanada de carne, and a bottle of Club beer. The soup was $3, nothing more than puréed cauliflower with some salt and pepper. The empanada de carne was $1.25 and filled with yellow rice and TWO pieces of tough steak. Plus, they brought me the empanada de pollo first by mistake, and I waited FIFTEEN minutes for them to bring the right one. All in all, $8.25. Anywhere else in the city, you can get a soup and a full plate with a glass of juice for $3, and it’s GOOD.
I was really excited to come here. I was speaking with a fellow tourist who told me there was a cafe in the historic district owned by a Louisianan. Being a Louisianan, I was excited to see what they had to offer. Super disappointed. Don’t waste...
Read moreThe best sandwich in Southern America. Quirky little place owned by a former American (living in Ecuador +15 years) where we found the beers to be strong, bursting with flavour and incredibly refreshing and the food to be delicious. When we return to Quito we will come for dinner. This time we enjoyed on tap artesanal brews and a mouth watering bbq pulled pork sandwich nestling within artesanal bread and coated in a mouth watering picantes sauce. Not sure where the negative reviewers are but it definitely wasn’t this place. Lonely planet has definitely not (indirectly) destroyed the integrity of this winning...
Read moreThe beer was ok, I had an imperial, which I thought was pretty good, and my companion had an IPA, which didn't seem all that IPAey to me; it was rather sweet. We didn't get to try their food because unfortunately they were cash only, and we didn't have much cash on us. They had some kind of "PayPal" sticker by their register but by the time I saw it, we were ready to leave, and so we didn't ask about it.
The music was neat, some Jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone. I may rate this place higher later, because their menu seemed tasty, but again, I didn't have enough cash to...
