This ice cream shop/café/restaurant has been around since 1858 and is well known for its helados de paila. San Agustin also serves the most typical Ecuadorian food and desserts, still made in the traditional way and at very affordable prices. The menu is extensive and can be viewed on their website, so you can have an idea as to what to expect. Many biscuits and sweets can also be purchased to go. Any doubts can be answered by the super friendly staff. This is a great place for tourists who want to experience the old city of Quito. The interior takes you back in time, with its saints and pictures of a Quito from the 19 hundreds. There is enough room to sit on the ground floor and first floor. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the ice cream saloon is open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m....
Read moreLove this very historic but always relavant cafeteria. It has not changed since it opened more than 150 years ago! Its Quito at its finest, with amazing local food. I had the ceviche which is the quint essential quiteño ceviche, a total treat. Then for my entree i had a seco de chivo which i thought was great. I always strive to find the best seco de chivo in Ecuador and this could be a top contender. I also had a guanabana juice which they made perfect. My wife and kid asked for a combo called Sal Quiteña and that cane with a locro de cuero which is a potato soup with pork rinds, very authentic and great tasting, then they got the lomo con champiñones which is steak with mushrooms but the sauce was divine and the steak was oh so soft and tasty. They also got an icecream which is made like coldstone ice cream here in Ecuador as a tradition and i really enjoyed that. All in all a great experience feeling like i travelled back in time to a simpler time in historic quito. Lovely anf highly...
Read moreThe place is very nice, or an old colonial style house. The service is fast and the staff quite attentive and helpful.
