Whether you're looking for an excellent Ecuadorian coffee and/or delicious homemade food (including cakes and Ecuadorian options) - or indeed as a tourist, you'd like some seriously helpful recommendations from a local - you can't go wrong with the Coffee Factory.
The coffee is supplied from the farm of an uncle of one of the owners - grown at 1,850m above sea level in the Pichincha region (Arabica beans of the Caturra variety, if I recall correctly). The coffee farm has an 18 year history of exporting to the US. Until the Coffee Factory opened in 2019, it was not possible to buy that coffee in Ecuador. Luckily for us, Sebastián (an Ecuadorian national, and one of the owners) and his friend experienced the frustration of many foreigners when they travelled around Ecuador, namely that despite Ecuador being a country that has great coffee beans, it is extremely hard to find good coffee in Ecuador... because it is mostly exported. This in turn led to the birth of the Coffee Factory.
But Sebastián makes this place so much more than just another good coffee shop in the world. He is exceptionally personable, warm and genuinely interested in all of his clients (a nice mix of locals and tourists). He even has a printed sheet with a list of his Quito recommendations that he readily provides to tourists. There is also a really interesting and easy to read booklet in the Coffee Factory about all of the coffee regions in Ecuador (there are so many!) with interesting facts about each.
We had French press black coffees (smooth and chocolatey) and our first Quimbolito (an Ecuadorian, delicious sponge corn cake, wrapped in a fragrant leaf). As others have mentioned, you will also be provided with some sparkling water. It is Güitig, naturally carbonated water from Cotopaxi - I don't usually like carbonated water but it was very tasty.
We went in hoping for some good coffee and cake and left with our mission accomplished - but also feeling so happy to have passed a wonderful moment in life by...
Read moreMy wife, our baby and I went to Coffee Factory for an authentic Ecuadorian coffee, and we found a warm atmosphere, great world music, artesian dark chocolate, and the best coffee I have tried so far in Quito. I think there is no better place to learn about the Ecuadorian Premium coffee than this place. The owner, Sebastian, is a coffee lover so he enjoys sharing all his knowledge and expertise about the local coffee. The coffee beans come from his family farm. I asked him to choose a coffee for me. He asked me if I liked strong flavors, I said yes. He impressed me with a Macchiato that I have never tried before elsewhere. My wife was recommended a flat white with a lightly roasted bean. She loved it. It was the right suggestion for her. Besides that, Sebastian is so helpful with any questions we had about things that locals do, places to visit, and any questions we had about Quito and other cities in Ecuador. This is a place I totally recommend. Great coffee, amazing atmosphere, friendly people and great music. Thank...
Read moreI have been wanting to go there last a few months, but I couldn’t since they only open on weekdays. Last Monday, I had a chance. I ordered a flat white and a cheese cake(guayaba?) The coffee was great, they had a two types, one sour/flowery and bitter but intense. I had the latter one it was great. I didn’t like the guayaba cheese cake as I expected something similar to an American cheese cake. They asked a few times, if everything was okay and after finding out that the guayaba cheesecake wasn’t my pick, they offered to change it to a coffee cheesecake. It was very good!
The price is a bit higher than other regular coffee shop in Quito but the service, atmosphere of the place, and the taste of coffee is well worth the price. I would definitely visit...
