Recent negative reviews concerning poor customer service are about to be echoed in yet again. This hotel charges $200-$300 a night for a room, in addition to price gouging every item and service offered on the property.

It is appalling that this hotel charges obscene prices by local standards, big cities US prices, but pays its employees wages so low that it would be illegal in most developed countries. As a result of these abusive and corrupt business practices it is not uncommon to encounter barely legal Venezuelan migrants and local Ecuadorians working on the property for unlivable wages.

This results in a grossly inferior service experience. The service experience at this JW Marriott franchise will comprise of either employees waiting on you hand and foot or the majority who don't get paid enough to care about hotel guests. I spent countless occasions at this hotel having to literally chase around employees for the most minor requests. Leaving large gratuities for staff does not improve service, and instead is easy money given away to indifferent employees who are miserable pandering after rich tourists while working for an American hotel brand franchised by millionaire sociopaths that pay their employees sweatshop wages.

Do not bother bringing your grievances to hotel management because all they will do is hide in their offices or lie and claim that they are "in a meeting" to avoid accountability for their shoddy operational skills.

I would not recommend this hotel based on their shady business practices alone. The prices are completely over the top by local standards and the service received does not justify the erroneous UK/US prices attached to everything. This Marriott is just another crooked business reaping profits from ignorant tourists who seek out accommodations under the guise of brand recognition. Vacationers are much better off renting a luxury condo for the same price it would cost to stay at this hotel for 3 or 4 nights.

The only upside to this property is the breakfast brunch which has a great selection of high quality food, in addition to excellent service from the waitstaff. That said, however, charging Ritz Carlton prices to receive mixed levels of service throughout the property is a clear indication of shameless greed, and not a business model that can give itself recognition as a...

We recently visited Quito for the first time and, at the last minute, changed our booking from the Sheraton to the JW Marriott. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge mistake and the worst Marriott experience of my life. The hotel is located in an unsafe neighborhood, as evidenced by locals advising us not to leave the property and car alarms going off all day and night, easily heard through the thin window panes.

We were also awakened in the middle of the night to evacuate the property due to an "emergency in the building." This involved a 5:30 am run down ten flights of stairs, only to end up in the restaurant where many people were having an early breakfast, ignoring the alarm. There was never an apology or explanation, and we had to wait in a queue for the two outdated elevators to slowly return all the angry, sleepy guests to their rooms. One poor woman was running in her bathrobe and had a nasty fall in the midst of the emergency. No help from the staff.

The following evening, the bar/restaurant got our food order wrong and promised to correct it quickly. The "7 minutes" we were promised turned into 20. We ordered some wine while we waited, and were served two very different sized glasses of wine, each well below a standard 5 oz. pour. It was strange.

Another restaurant in the facility housed the breakfast buffet, which included a chef who was picking food from his own teeth and then using the same fingers to make your eggs and grab omelette ingredients. Needless to say, we opted out of breakfast the next morning.

If you are forced to stay here due to business travel, you will quickly notice the executive lounge is also subpar. If there are two people in your room, even if it's a suite, you can each have one small glass of wine per day, and if you dare to eat some of the small finger foods, they will clear your plate mid-chew. They also run out of food quite early.

PLEASE DON'T STAY here if you value luxury, customer service, your safety, or minimal food safety standards. Huge fail to end such...

I wanted to share my bad experience at the Quito Marriott. I've stayed at numerous Marriott hotels in diverse locations such as London, Prague, Vienna, Washington DC and even the one located at Zizur Mayor! I've never had a negative experience and would rate my stays as five stars. Today after walking throughout downtown Quito, I was craving a good Bloody Mary-- why not the Marriott bar? I'm not staying at the hotel and this review in no ways reflects on their quality rooms. As I walked in, I asked the first employee where the bar was, he stated that it opened in 5 minutes, 4 pm. I said thanks and stated I would wait in the public area. My companion and I looked into the gift shop briefly but then sat down in the lobby. As I was making a business call on my cell, my companion was approached by an employee who brusquely stated to her, that we needed to leave the premises of the hotel or enter the bar. This one employee suddenly made all my prior great Marriott experiences feel cheapened. I was being treated like a vagrant who should be tossed out. This employee was different from the first employee who told me the bar would open in 5 minutes but he obviously knew what I intended to do. I had just been in the public lobby of this Marriott for a total of perhaps 10 minutes when my companion was confronted. I sincerely believe she would not have been treated like this if she a were white, blue eyed, "Gringa," instead of Latina. We complained and the guest relations manager, Andrea, was nice enough to apologize excusing the employee as being too security conscious. However, we were never "sneaking" into any non public areas and thought this security excuse for racial profiling to be flimsy in the general public area. We had our drinks. They were fine but just a little too much lemon, a bit sour for our stomachs. The employee who tried to kick us out was a bit to sour for our dignity too. So as someone who loves Marriott hotels, I may still visit other venues but certainly not the Quito Marriott.

I have to give some love to the amazing, amazing team at the JW Marriott in Quito. This was probably the best hotel stay I've *ever* had (and I've had quite a few). At every turn the staff went above and beyond to anticipate our needs and make us feel like royalty. Before checking in, I let them know that we were celebrating my husband's birthday and asked if I could have a bottle of bubbly delivered to the room at check-in. Upon arrival, we found not only the bottle of champagne, but also these beautiful and delicious chocolate-dipped strawberries. But the surprises didn't end there! On the actual day of my husband's birthday, we received a beautiful (and complimentary) Feliz Cumpleanos cake. And on our last night, they dropped off a half bottle of wine and some crackers and cheese. The housekeeping staff were phenomenal. The room didn't just get cleaned daily, but often multiple times a day! They'd make up the room in the morning while we were enjoying our complimentary breakfast, then in the evenings they'd tidy up again and drop off chocolates. They even went so far as to fold my dirty clothes! While the concierge lounge is closed, they offered us complimentary breakfast at their restaurant every morning. Fresh, locally-sourced fruits, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, pastries, yogurt --- everything you could possibly want! The food was great, and the restaurant staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. After the first morning, the host greeted me every day with "Hello again, Mr. Cannon! Table for two?" The health club was also quite nice. Extensive gym with every form of exercise equipment, free weights, yoga mats, etc. In the locker rooms there was a steam room, sauna, and whirlpool, as well as many water stations (which is always important to me!). Oh, and of course there was a beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub as well. Overall, it was a truly amazing experience. I just can't say enough about this wonderful property and its amazing staff.

After the horrendous barrage of noise at a sister property upon arrival in Quito and from the smiling bellmen greeting me to the door of my cab and the great departure three days later one would think it deserving of a stellar reviews: and... be sadly mistaken ! In short: if you glimpse the property and you think you found Valhalla.... Run. You will not be allowed to sleep here. AC system is fully polluted from birds attaching and preening over the convex glass roof, and landscaping touching the side hall stairwells. And From the endless mowing and pool-vac you will have come to Ecuador to be choked out by the endless smog infiltrating the sanctity from the main avenue. I tried so hard to be content here... But the unless stream of sanctuary desecraters also seem to prefer this as their launchpad - they stay precious few nights and manage to fill the property and your bed in the neighboring/adjoining room full of unwanted 'ambience', and critters that stream in form the room service leftovers of over-moneyed slovenly milleniot and their trophies . So... If you want to sleep (ever again) and have any money left in your pocket for tourism, choose a more honest, tucked away place anywhere down the street or actually n La Carolina or La Granja. You'll be glad you avoided this because they only clean the grounds once a week and the common spaces, like the halls, perhaps never at all. Front desk mollify your requests and effect nothing. If you must stop for coffee or piano music: the Bell service is legendarily amazing: Arturo, Franklin and the rest are demi-gods. And they do all this for free, so tip them handsomely, they earn it !
