Read moreRecent negative reviews concerning poor customer service are about to be echoed in yet again. This hotel charges $200-$300 a night for a room, in addition to price gouging every item and service offered on the property.
It is appalling that this hotel charges obscene prices by local standards, big cities US prices, but pays its employees wages so low that it would be illegal in most developed countries. As a result of these abusive and corrupt business practices it is not uncommon to encounter barely legal Venezuelan migrants and local Ecuadorians working on the property for unlivable wages.
This results in a grossly inferior service experience. The service experience at this JW Marriott franchise will comprise of either employees waiting on you hand and foot or the majority who don't get paid enough to care about hotel guests. I spent countless occasions at this hotel having to literally chase around employees for the most minor requests. Leaving large gratuities for staff does not improve service, and instead is easy money given away to indifferent employees who are miserable pandering after rich tourists while working for an American hotel brand franchised by millionaire sociopaths that pay their employees sweatshop wages.
Do not bother bringing your grievances to hotel management because all they will do is hide in their offices or lie and claim that they are "in a meeting" to avoid accountability for their shoddy operational skills.
I would not recommend this hotel based on their shady business practices alone. The prices are completely over the top by local standards and the service received does not justify the erroneous UK/US prices attached to everything. This Marriott is just another crooked business reaping profits from ignorant tourists who seek out accommodations under the guise of brand recognition. Vacationers are much better off renting a luxury condo for the same price it would cost to stay at this hotel for 3 or 4 nights.
The only upside to this property is the breakfast brunch which has a great selection of high quality food, in addition to excellent service from the waitstaff. That said, however, charging Ritz Carlton prices to receive mixed levels of service throughout the property is a clear indication of shameless greed, and not a business model that can give itself recognition as a...
Read moreWe recently visited Quito for the first time and, at the last minute, changed our booking from the Sheraton to the JW Marriott. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge mistake and the worst Marriott experience of my life. The hotel is located in an unsafe neighborhood, as evidenced by locals advising us not to leave the property and car alarms going off all day and night, easily heard through the thin window panes.
We were also awakened in the middle of the night to evacuate the property due to an "emergency in the building." This involved a 5:30 am run down ten flights of stairs, only to end up in the restaurant where many people were having an early breakfast, ignoring the alarm. There was never an apology or explanation, and we had to wait in a queue for the two outdated elevators to slowly return all the angry, sleepy guests to their rooms. One poor woman was running in her bathrobe and had a nasty fall in the midst of the emergency. No help from the staff.
The following evening, the bar/restaurant got our food order wrong and promised to correct it quickly. The "7 minutes" we were promised turned into 20. We ordered some wine while we waited, and were served two very different sized glasses of wine, each well below a standard 5 oz. pour. It was strange.
Another restaurant in the facility housed the breakfast buffet, which included a chef who was picking food from his own teeth and then using the same fingers to make your eggs and grab omelette ingredients. Needless to say, we opted out of breakfast the next morning.
If you are forced to stay here due to business travel, you will quickly notice the executive lounge is also subpar. If there are two people in your room, even if it's a suite, you can each have one small glass of wine per day, and if you dare to eat some of the small finger foods, they will clear your plate mid-chew. They also run out of food quite early.
PLEASE DON'T STAY here if you value luxury, customer service, your safety, or minimal food safety standards. Huge fail to end such...
