Upon arriving in Quito, I made my way to the welcoming Mercure hotel. The city greeted me with a brisk 53 degrees, perfect for indulging in some light, zesty fare at the hotel's Spicey restaurant. The menu was a delightful surprise, featuring the local favorite, Locro - a soup that's like a warm hug on a chilly day. The crème de yuca with shrimp was a masterpiece, with succulent shrimp swimming in a sea of rich, savory broth. It's the kind of dish that makes you want to lick the bowl clean! The next evening's adventure led me to the hotel's oriental spread, a culinary journey to the East without leaving my seat. The Tempura was a mountain of crispy delight, the Dragon roll was a visual and taste sensation, and the shrimp fried rice? Let's just say it was a shrimp bonanza that could've stocked a small aquarium. The Tempura portion was so generous, I half-expected to start a food-sharing club. If you're ever at the Mercure, skipping the oriental menu would be a missed opportunity for your taste buds!

Spicy is new to the restaurant scene in Quito. They are located in Mercure Alameda Hotel Quito. The hotel has undergone recent renovations. As you enter the lobby, you will find the restaurant located to your right. The restaurant is tastefully decorated expressing the culture. Our friendly, smiling waiter was Kevin. He spoke English well and communication was excellant. He was very helpful in explaining the dishes, answered questions thoroughly, and made wonderful recommendations to our group of 6. I ordered the Sea Bass. It was delicious, seasoned with Cardamom, and served with vegetables. My husband had Paella. He requested linguine in place of rice which was easily accommodated. The others in our group all commented on how delicious their meals were. It was a relaxing, delicious dining experience! We all plan to return to taste another entree.

Our waiter and the chef went above and beyond with the service. Because they were running behind with our orders they treated us with complimentary appetizers and an amazing dessert! Excellent.
