We’re generally not a fan of the South American Chifa. This one has indeed all the typical chinese-style foods…. BUT FOR SOME OF THE DISHES, THERE’S SOME DEGREE OF AUTHENTICITY although it is not evident to which of the known regional Chinese cuisines those foods would fall under.
Unlike the typical Chifa, THERE IS THE DISTINCTIVE UMAMI FLAVOR IN SELECT DISHES:
🤗 there’s a House Hot Chili oil, which the typical Chifa does not have. Here, the Chili Oil is chunky and has the true chili 🌶️ punch.
🤗🤗🤗 the Steamed Dumplings are just lovely. They are packed and has that lovely Umami flavor reminiscent of authentic Cantonese dumplings.
THERE’S THAT LOVELY DRIP OF AU JUS ON THE FIRST BITE…. Oh they go so very well with a dab of the Hot Chili Oil.
🤗🤗🤗🤗 the Pato con Verduras is a terrific sauté of boneless slices of duck meat and mixed veggies.
It is BURSTING WITH UMAMI FLAVOR, the sauce reminds me again of Cantonese especially with the very silken sauce.
The dish would have been perfect IF there was wood ear mushrooms.
👎👎👎 the Cream of Crab Soup (Sopa Cangrejo) is TYPICAL CHIFA, NOT AUTHENTIC CHINESE. It lacks the Umami flavor and MISSING THE CRAB MEAT NOR DOES IT TASTE CRAB….
The MENU is chuck FULL OF NON-AUTHENTIC DISHES 😖😖😖😖😖😖such as Deep Fried Rolls (rollo primavera), Fried Cheese Wontons (crab rangoon), sweet and sour (agridulce), breaded and fried, piña, chaulafan ….
WHERE THE MENU MAY BE ENJOYABLE ARE THE ESPECIALES like +++ the Duck (Pato) Salteados +++ Whole Roast Duck either Pato Entero or the Peking Duck +++ Especial Verduras
We have yet to try the hot pot.
Service is good.
The eatery is a large establishment, a cash and debit card operation. It has the typical decor associated with a Chinese eatery, nothing ostentatious...
Read moreGreat Chinese food in Quito. The food was tasty and prepared well. It took a perfectly reasonable amount of time to prepare. The service was great, the guy who helped us was very nice. I got chicken curry which I will post a photo of on this review. My date got duck with vegetables and it was also very good. They made wonderful michelaals. We also got crab rangoon which is called fried wanton with cheese on the menu, it was very very delicious also. The environment was okay, there were not many people there but all of them were Asian and seemed to be enjoying the food. That's got to mean something in Latin...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I should say we had the worst impression of the restaurant for the first hour or so (worst hour to go between 13h30 and 14h45) never the less, after this bad impression a waitress by the name of Elsa made sure that my 6mo expecting wife, my baby and I forget about everything, enjoy our delicious meals and leave truly happy of waiting so long for the food.
Prices are adequate between $8 - $15 per person, quantity, presentation and flavor were almost perfect, so we are definitely...
