Location: Arkan, Sheikh Zayed I would never understand why this place would have anything less than 5 stars apart from Karens and extremely rare bad experiences. All in all, this place is perfect. People who work there are nothing less than friendly and always helping you with a smile on their face. They're not annoying when asking for feedback and the food gets put on your table in a maximum duration of 15 minutes (give or take) since it's already smoked. Now, in terms of flavor and quality, you're more than welcome to go in and ask to try their food out as they'll happily give you a sample, but coming from someone who lived in Texas, this definitely is way better than I'd say 60-70% of the restaurants there. First time I tried them (I go there at least once or twice every weeks), I seriously couldn't believing that I'm having this good quality here in Egypt honestly, especially for Brisket. They always ask you whether you want it low-medium-high fat before serving you the brisket and when they tell you that the fattier one is more tender, don't question it cus it's 100% and I regretted the time I was trying to cut down on fats and took a low fat one. Their sauces... I could drink it. Their brown sauce (I'm unsure till this day what to call it) is out of this world and their mustard is home made (you can see the mustard seeds in your sauce) and the pickles (especially the pickled onion) are top notch). Only item I haven't tried there is the ribs.
All in all, 10/10 restaurant:
Food: 10/10. Brilliantly cooked meat whether brisket, lamb, sausages or tacos. Service: 10/10. Clean tables, fast friendly service. Atmosphere: Can't give a rating to be honest since it's Arkan and you have indoors (no smoking) and outdoors so it's Arkan's atmosphere not theirs. Bathroom: No toilet present as all restaurants in Arkan or at least 85% of them but there is a sink to wash your hands. Price: 9/10. It's quite on the expensive side if you were to order any standalone meat but you're definitely getting what you pay for. Tacos are actually normal in terms of pricing and are a pretty good meal since you get sides and a drink along 3 tacos filled with the same meat served separately.
Just wanted to add the pricings for the most expensive items on the menu per category:
Brisket (pastrami/meat): 250 grams = 450-490 EGP
Brisket (pastrami/meat) meal: 200 grams + side dish + drink = 450-500 EGP
Tacos (3 tacos with brisket and 1 with lamb): 3 tacos + side dish + drink = 140 - 190 EGP
Side dishes (starting from coleslaw to loaded fries w/ briskets or Mac n cheese)...
Read moreI heard from friends I trust that this restaurant is a must try and that's because it serves authentic very high quality smoked brisket as well as other famous items for Texas BBQ and some of their own signatures.
It is located in mall O1, a few mins from Rehab City. Their outdoor area is very spacious, clean and has a relaxing vibe. Their indoor area is also nice, when the weather isn't too nice. It is amazingly decorated in a way, you could forget for a second that you are in Cairo and not Texas.
They have various set meals in the menu, but then I quickly realised, they also have an all you can eat option, so I opted for it without thinking too much. The buffet doesn't come cheap by Egyptian standards , 25-30 dollars per person, but let me tell you why it is totally worth it.
You can also order as much sides as you want with your all you can eat Texas BBQ. We tried their mac n cheese, brisket salad, potato salad and blue cheese red lettuce salad. They were refreshing along side the enormous amount of meat we ordered, but if I'm completely honest, I expected better from the sides, especially for a restaurant this fancy. I believe with little effort, the sides menu could be improved greatly.
There was a gentleman who explained to us how this works; basically you have a piece of wood with red and blue colors at its ends, respectively. If the blue part is facing up, then that means you want to be served more meat, and if it's red, it means you are taking a break or finished. So basically you don't leave your table and the waiter will come around with different cuts of meat every few mins, like brisket, pastrami brisket, link sausages, ribs, pulled beef and more. After the 1st bite, you can tell immediately that the meat is very high quality, has been smoked for hours with the right spices, is very tender and juicy and just tastes heavenly. I personally liked the pastrami brisket, sausages and ribs the most. Normally, they also serve grilled chicken and quail, but they mentioned to us that they don't have any BBQ poultry today in the menu, what a bummer!
All in all, it was a great experience, I would definitely do it again. We spent there at least 3 hours, and the waiters were so friendly and always encouraging us to try different cuts and having more. So treat yourself one day to this experience, it will surely make your day!
Tip: On Mondays and Tuesday you get 200EGP off the...
Read moreBeing someone who loves food and all things meat I’ve been all around Cairo trying different steakhouses. Sadly this one has not really left me wanting more. The service was ok if I’m being honest but it was the food and the mistakes that were made that really ruined the experience for us. But to be fair I want to talk about the good and the bad. The meat overall isn’t bad it was actually good. The brisket being the most savory of them all. And the lamb chops were average if I must say, nothing new. The first issue that arose was that upon ordering our “meat” we had asked for 1 pound (435g) of brisket, but the person who had cut it for us who I believe was Max at the time didn’t make sure it was 1 pound and ended up giving us almost 2 pounds and Max had said that that was 1 pound. This jacked up the total price paid to a much more hefty sum. We didn’t know that it was almost 2 until it was time to pay. After we told one of the gentlemen wearing white to he tried to fix things for us by getting us a cut of their “cheese cake”, which I have to say was kind of him. So a word of advice if you go is to make sure he put the correct amount of meat that you asked for so that mistake isn’t repeated.
We had also ordered “Hash rice” and “Loaded fries” which were both very good. But the overall issue is we had asked them to put it under the “heating lights” in order to keep it hot but by the time we got to the cashier all the food was sadly cold which in my opinion made the food taste worse than it should.
Items: 1.brisket: 7/10 Lamb chops: 7/10 Hash rice: 9/10 Loaded fries: 10/10
Overall the experience was ok. For the price that was paid and the what we got I don’t think I’d make this restaurant a regular. With the mistakes that happened and the overall food i feel it would leave people not willing to keep coming. But I’d say it won’t hurt to try it once and get a feel of...
