Restoran Trofé — Restaurant in Tallinn

My son & I came here for dinner especially to try out their Estonian & Nordic food options. Their food was excellent. Hats off to the Chef ! However, their service was the worst I’ve ever experienced anywhere & Trust me I travel a lot around the world. The waitress we had, I think her name was Irene. I guess we were a little too brown for her liking. When we sat down, I told here we intend to have drinks & food. Still, when she came back with our drinks, she brought the bill for the drinks. So, I reminded her again that we were planning to order food. So, she went back. It was like she couldn’t wait to get rid of us. Then she came back with the utensils in the little basket with butter & NO BREAD. We looked at that & thought, ok may be she will bring the bread later as other people in the next table had bread in their basket. I waited for her to come back. When she came back with our order of food, she messed up the order, which I didn’t make any issue. I mean, mistakes happen. So, I let it go. When she came back with the correct food, I asked her about the bread & she goes. “ Oh, No… there is no bread for you here.” I asked, “then what’s the butter here in the basket for ? “ She said, “ Oh, that’s just how we serve here, No bread”. I didn’t say much after that. It was very clear that she didn’t want to serve us & wanted us out of there ASAP. Since we had already ordered the food, we finished our meal, paid our bill & left. We’ve been in Estonia for three days now & everyone else have been wonderful. So, this experience definitely sticks out like a sore thumb. I guess every batch have at least one bad apple. So, I am just going to see it like that. So, if you are not white & if you decide to dine here, let’s hope you don’t get Irene as your server. In case if Irene was wearing someone else’s name tag today, let me be very clear, she is the one with the bad...

Io e la mia ragazza siamo stati per il suo compleanno in questo ristorante, il 9 dicembre, prenotazione Stefano x2 (nella speranza che il ristoratore si ricordi). Tavolo prenotato ore 20 e 30, appena arrivati ci avvertono scusandosi che la cucina era in ritardo di 50 minuti, niente di male, eravamo in vacanza. Ordiniamo 10 minuti dopo e da quel momento passa 1 ora e 10 minuti per ricevere la prima portata (21 e 50). Finita la prima portata attendiamo la seconda che arriva alle 22 e 30, altri 40 minuti dopo. Ci sparecchiano alle 22 e 55 circa senza chiederci se volevamo altro. Qualche minuto più tardi sono quindi io a chiamare la cameriera per ordinare due dolci e mi viene risposto che questo non era possibile perché la cucina aveva chiuso alle ore 23. In poche parole siamo rimasti senza dolce (poco male per me, un po’ di più per la mia ragazza che ci teneva a mangiare un dolce dopo cena per il suo compleanno) e caffè perché per portare una zuppa e un secondo piatto ci hanno messo più di 2 ore. Io capisco la serata storta, può succedere, ma la serietà di servire fino a fine pasto due commensali che hanno dato fiducia al loro ristorante e che si sono adattati ai loro tempi biblici senza alcuna lamentela (cosa successa in tutti gli altri tavoli) mi sembra doverosa. Avrebbero potuto avvertire, avrebbero potuto chiederci se volevamo il dolce anche prima che concludessimo il secondo piatto, avrebbero potuto per una sera chiudere la cucina 10 minuti dopo e invece no, come se il ritardo fosse stato colpa nostra e fregandosene altamente di 2 persone, che come tantissime altre prima, hanno certamente dato il loro contribuito per far sì che la loro attività continuasse ad andare bene come spero che continui a fare in futuro. È un dare e avere, è questione di rispetto. Abbiamo mangiato comunque abbastanza bene, spesa nella media di 95€ per 2 antipasti, 2 secondi e vino. Non vi ringrazio ora come non l’ho fatto la sera della cena e sicuramente (poco male per voi, ma fa niente) non ci tornerei...

It was soooo good we had to come here twice. The Scandinavian Cream Soup is divine, the complimentary bread they serve is amazing and we tried the rabbit burger, the rabbit pasta, the quail filet and the slowly cooked boar (on the photo): more than delicious.

Unfortunately the entrance can be easily overseen and to be honest you wouldnt expect such amazing food if you only saw the outside. We trusted a couple that came out of the restaurant who told us about the amazing dinner they had and they were absolutely right.

My tip: Don‘t hesitate, just go there if you want...
