The hotel is a complete mixed bag - some aspects are excellent, some are not. With a few tweaks, it could be a 5 star review.||Positives:|- Location. This could not be any better. Right near the Viru gate, so a couple of minutes to Town Hall Square, a couple of minutes to great transport and a couple of minutes from the Rotermann Quarter.|- Transport links - half an hour on tram 4 from the airport. Perfect.|- Breakfast - this was included in our room rate and was great. Cereal, cooked breakfast (we didn’t try this), fresh fruit, bread/toast, ham/salmon/cheese, pastries - a really good choice, and replenished often.|- Room - we had the suite with the bath, and the room size was fantastic. It was well- equipped with bottled water every day, toiletries, slippers and a robe. Just the usual issues of never enough coat hangers and tiny towels! A fan was also provided in the room. There was a fridge, but it did not keep things particularly cold as the milk we bought for our hot drinks went off.||Even better if:|- cleanliness - this was an issue. On arrival there was a cobweb with dead insects above the mirror above the bed, and the small window had cobwebs. There was also a clothing tag under the bed (I didn’t search, you could just see it as you approached), which stayed there all week. When we used cups they were not washed until 2 days later, and this happened the couple of times we used them. When I went to bed there was a sharp lump - it turned out the previous guest had left toy cars under the mattress topper, and these had not been found between guests. I am therefore assuming the bed was not checked properly, and the mattress topper was not cleaned. I mentioned the card to someone, but they did not seem bothered.|- Smell - this was not evident on arrival, but was there the second day. We mentioned it and was told it would be sorted, and it was - if you call masking it with some kind of spray (which didn’t do the job) sorting it. The smell was there the next day too, but the following day it was on the floor below as we could smell it as we went up the stairs.|- Lack of information- there was no information in the room on the area or things to see. This would have been really helpful.|- Helpfulness - we did not find staff particularly friendly other than the male cook - he was always smiley and welcoming. When we checked in the female member of staff saw us struggling with our cases, but there was no offer of help which would have been really welcomed.||Point to note: we knew there was no lift, but be aware how steep the stairs are - they are very steep,...
Read moreThis hotel was pretty fantastic for experience and value and especially location. Two of us stayed here two nights toward the end of our Poland + Baltics trip June/July 2024. I prefer to book hotels that are historic or near historic interest points, especially in the old cities. Was not disappointed with any of my choices booking this way! For Cru Hotel I relied on Google Reviews primarily in making my choice. I booked directly with the hotel. The hotel was great about communicating before arrival, even emailing to ask what time we'd arrive the morning of our booking and having a room ready for us even though we arrived around noon. Actual reception wasn't super warm but it was efficient and we were pleased with the friendliness of other staff we encountered during our stay, especially the housekeeping staff. The hotel is a maze, we wandered the halls a bit and you could be trekking a bit! We had Room #1 right at the top of the stairs, so super easy to access and there really was almost no inside hotel noise. There was no AC so noise from outside with open windows was intense - the restaurant is right below that window so we heard music and chatter until they closed around midnight. we could also hear street noise. Oh well, I know that's part of sleeping in the old city with cobble streets and pack earplugs and eye cover and sleep fine. the room was clean and the beds comfortable - two twins shoved together with separate top bedding. could feel the other person moving around but not terrible. Bathroom was spacious and good toiletries (natural shampoo and hand wash in dispenser). The macarons and water on arrival (and refill on water) was a very nice touch! The breakfast was very good with hot options - eggs prepared different ways each day, crepes, smoked salmon and cheeses, breads, etc. A filling start to the day. They were great at helping us store luggage for our evening departure. Best of all was the old city right outside the door. It's close to the Viru Gate so easy to access local transit in the new part of the city (we used a tram from the bus station, took a bus to the airport)....
