Delicious food, with many options to choose from.
I had never been to this restaurant before, but since my Ukrainian acquaintance recommended this place, I was more than willing to give it a try. Since I was travelling with my mother, a dedicated seafood connoisseur, we were gladly surprised that the menu contains ample seafood options to choose from.
The service we received from the staff was immediate and impeccable: friendly, charming, and very appropriate. As we were pondering upon the pairing of wine with our dishes, the waitress recommended that we should try Ukrainian dry white wine, which proved an excellent choice. The bouquet of the said wine was fragrant, full of floral scent and different berries. The acidity, albeit not overwhelming, was perfectly suitable for our main dishes. This anecdote serves as an indicator of the expertise of the staff.
At this point, I must express my astonishment regarding the drink menu. Since I had never had Ukrainian wine before, this experience was completely new for me. The selection of other beverages, alcoholic and nonalcoholic, was well-planned: having a decent amount of options for pairing with various dishes, but keeping it controlled. Aside from wine, we also decided to have ourselves shots of horilka, a type of spiced vodka. It proved to be an excellent decision.
Which brings me to the tasty food. Vareniki and Odessa-style herring paté we chose were not only excellent and hearty but also plentiful in their sheer amount. For our surprise, we also received an amuse-bouche, which contained extra glasses of horilka as well as tasty breads with paté. The entrees we chose were Chicken a la Kyiv and pike-perch a la Kyiv: excellent, hearty dishes with plentiful to eat. The Ukrainian wine mentioned in the previous paragraph served its purpose in the most excellent manner: the acidity was just perfect for both entrees!
The interior decoration in the restaurant side was quite different compared to the bar section: simple and straightforward by its nature, ergo elegant. Lacking all kitsch and camp, instead concentrating to the aesthetic purity. The linen, as well as plates and silverware, were quite minimalistic but elegant. The bar section, located at the entrance, had more memorabilia and related items, but not in excessive quantities. Overall, the interior can be described as quite pleasant.
I can't help but to recommend this restaurant. Well-planned selection of drinks and dishes will most surely...
Read moreMy favourite restaurant in Tallinn, and it’s not only because it’s Ukrainian restaurant! The quality of food is simply amazing, it tastes so good and guys here are so awesome, they make sure that your dishes will also look fancy and you’ll have the best type of experience It’s not cheap, but it’s 100% worth it. The only thing that I wish they would change is that after you order, you have to wait a bit for your food. But it’s because the restaurant has a lot of climates and you can also order food to go They have the best Kyiv tort (Киевский торт) that I’ve went tried outside of Kyiv! Their borsch (Борщ) is amazing g and tastes very homemade. It may seem like the portion of it is small, but when you eat it with the bread and bacon (сало) - that’s more than enough. They serve bacon here in a very right manner - it’s always ice cold and melts on your tongue It’s the first Ukrainian restaurant abroad that I can rate so high, because these guys know what they are doing g and they provide amazing service and very tasty food The fish pate (Фаршмак) is legit the best one so far! As good as those that you can try in Odessa! I love the fact that they have compliments from chef here The interior of the place is also worth mentioning, as it’s very cute and every detail is on its place. It’s like you’re back home, in Odessa, you enter your favourite restaurant and you can just sit and relax, enjoying tasty food while being surrounded by your friends It feels so wholesome, you should definitely come and try it, no matter if you’re a foreigner or...
Read morePrices are higher than usual, but normal for the old city center, so don't let you detour you from coming here. Let's start with the atmosphere, they lights are dim and there's candles everywhere, the collection of artifacts and art from Ukraine, the underground feeling you get when you enter the restaurant, like you're part of a special club, it's truly amazing. The service is well executed, it's good to see the waiters serving and moving around like drones, but in a very graceful way. Now let's talk about what's important, the food! I was offered an appetizer, that was beautiful to see, but more satisfying to eat. I ordered the strogonoff, we have our own version in Portugal, but it's very different from the original recipe, so I was actually excited to try it out... And I was blown away by the presentation, because they transformed a simple dish into something very special. It was delicious, I enjoyed it until the very end. Also I had opportunity to try the Kyiv Cake, that I've been told is close to the original recipe. Well, I don't know if that's correct or not, but I can tell that is one of the best pastries I tried in years, the dough is something special that I would describe as a cookie. Overall, it was a pleasant place to be introduced to the Ukrainian cuisine, and I'm glad that I went in, hope to home back to Tallinn just to go...
