Overall a great experience and recommendation! Food was great and had enough dimensions. Wine was excellent and complimented the food well. Wine pairings were provided when asked and they fit well.
As what comes to dishes: Tartar had great texture but overly greasy topping and lacked acidity. Still, one of the best tartars in town. Needs water to dish it down tho.
Pasta: Lacked acidity and was very much more one dimensional than contending risotto. However, opened up during tasting and was pleasant experience. Anyway, I recommend risotto here.
Desserts: Bit too sour to really make use of excellent dessert wines, lacked the complementary sweeteness. Enjoyed still.
Other 2 foods not mentioned(fish and bird) were great, good combination of flavors and nice texture representation.
Espresso Martini and Champagnes were superb. Sparkling was really dull, skip that.
Price/Quality was great. Pacing was slow at the beginning, rushed at the end and we were rushed to finish our dinner. This was big minus on the mood , since the pacing was really not up to us, however we had sit total almost 3 hours, so technically we exceeded the reserved time slot. However, I would have expected more even paced dining.
Overall, great experience, clear taste palette, simple and straightforward ride combined with good service. Will...
Read moreFood was good and down to earth. There wasn't any dish that was bad but there was nothing surprising or mind blowing either except the ground artichokes with fish roe, a new combo which we really liked. The wines they recommended were good too. Service was prompt and cheerful. The ambience reminded us of restaurants in the meat packing district in New York. The only fault, which was quite unforgivable is that the first reservations are timed for 4pm. We arrived 10 mins before, there was another group behind us and the door to the restaurant was locked! I could hear the group behind us gasping and complaining that it's cold. This meant the first guests were standing out in the cold (5 degrees Celsius) for quite a while before someone actually came and opened the door at 3.58pm! Where I come from, this would have been rude and unacceptable. You would at least open the front door before opening time and let guest wait inside at the coat area where it is warm. I have never experienced this kind of manners from an establishment except in Finland (mind you this is not the only restaurant that does this in Finland). Aside from this first impression, we had a pretty...
Read moreWe visited Baskeri Basso in Helsinki and were extremely disappointed with the service.
From the very start, the attitude of our server made us feel unwelcome. We were first asked if we wanted an aperitif, and when we requested to see the menu, we were told there wasn’t one. We asked for a Negroni Sbagliato, only to be told they could only serve a regular Negroni because it was a pre-made batch.
The food menu has barely 10 dishes in total. Since it was 4 PM and we just wanted something light, we ordered 4 dishes to share. From that moment on, the waitress kept making remarks about how little we were ordering, in a judgmental and condescending way.
Is there some sort of minimum spending requirement at this place that we weren’t informed about? If so, it should be clearly stated. The constant push to order more drinks was unnecessary and unpleasant.
People go out to enjoy themselves, not to feel judged because they don’t want to drink the wine you have on your menu that day. We left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome — not an experience we would...
