The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and warm, creating a pleasant environment for dining and socializing. However, as the number of customers increased, the space became somewhat noisy, as the tables were placed closely together. This occasionally made it challenging to hear conversations, especially during busier evenings.
The restaurant had a professionally run kitchen, which was a positive observation. The food was well-prepared and delicious, and it was evident that they adhered to high-quality standards. The staff instilled confidence in the establishment's commitment to good quality. The service was quick and efficient, with an adequate number of staff members present. They were attentive and accommodating, readily answering questions and providing recommendations. It was also noteworthy that the staff allowed customers sufficient time to enjoy their meals without feeling rushed, while ensuring reasonable waiting times for food.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to those seeking quality for their money. Despite the potential noise issue when the restaurant is crowded, the pleasant atmosphere and professionally run kitchen make it an appealing choice. The fast service and ample staffing guarantee that customers receive good value for their money. The menu is centered around a 3-course set menu, but it's not mandatory. The main focus is on the selection of grilled dishes, with options ranging from vegetables, fish, to meat. Additionally, customers have the freedom to mix and match their choices to customize their meal according to their preferences. The set menu was priced at 50€, and considering the quality of the food, it provided good value. The portions were well-balanced, and the overall quantity was generous enough to satisfy...
Read moreTL;DR Good food, good atmosphere. 5/5 if you know what to pick. 4/5 for the menu I took.
I liked the atmosphere of BasBas Kulma a lot. Especially the interior design. Food itself was mostly very good. On this visit the dinner menu cost 50 € which gets you two starters, two mains, one side and a dessert.
The starters were excellent: Fish tar tar was fresh and the caramelised onion sandwitch on the other hand was probably the best caramelised onion (with cheese) I've ever eaten.
For the mains I took a grilled cauliflower with cheese sauce which was a little heavy but delicious experience that suited well with the current winter weather. This paired surprisingly well with my second mains course: pork belly with chili sauce. The pork tasted okay but was the most ordinary of these dishes. This may of course be expected but the bland feeling was also present in their BBQ chicken which I also tasted. Both left me with wanting something nore creative.
For dessert I chose their chocolate brownie/cake with almond ice cream. On paper, a good combo of mud cake and ice cream, but unfortunately this time the cake was a bit dry. I also tried their blackberry sorbet which I think was very well made.
In conclusion, you'll get to taste good variance of food for your 50 €. Everything I ate was good but some of the stuff you'd get cheaper from other places. Still, if you manage to pick the best pieces from the menu, it will be an amazing journey for...
Read moreThis is a very modern, hip place to be. It was clear that it was very “happening”. Loads of people and full steam ahead with waitresses and food.
This reflected a bit on the service, which sometimes was nice and attentive (you will be served by several different staff), but other times almost a bit condescending. Overall it was OK, but for the price point I expect something more. One waitress just said “it is what it is” when we tried to make a simple substitution. Very unsympathetic approach.
The interior was nice even if we were seated in a a bit of a boring place. It’s definitely loud, but I can see how it could be nice with a bunch of friends at the table, rather than being a couple.
The food was a bit underwhelming. The corn starter was amazing, but the huge chunk of squid as well as the pork was very bland. Quite chewy actually. There was no sense of satisfaction at the end. Even if we were forced to have a dessert to do the set menu, instead of a cheaper side extra. “It is what it is”.
Overall Helsinki provided these kind of experiences food wise; nothing wrong, but just not good enough for the quite...
