I've visited this sandwich spot twice now, and my feelings are mixed. On my first visit, I picked up the Vodka Parmesan Chicken sandwich. It was decent, but nothing special. At €14.90 for a sandwich, I expected something closer to perfection, especially in terms of flavor. The display of pickle jars on the wall was a nice touch, but I didn’t really taste that kind of punch or refinement in the sandwich itself. The bread was good, and the simple packaging kept everything together, which I appreciated. However, the nacho chips on the side didn’t seem like the right fit—it felt like the sandwich deserved a side that would enhance its flavors.
On my second visit, I dined in and tried the Chicago Style Roast Beef, while my companion had the Eggplant Parmesan. The Eggplant Parmesan was clearly the better of the two—it had more flavor and was juicier. The Roast Beef, on the other hand, was a letdown. The meat was sliced too thin, making it dry, and it was overcooked, losing that nice rosy center roast beef should have. The sandwich didn’t really have any standout flavors, and dry meat on good bread is still just a dry sandwich. I was disappointed and found myself wondering if I’d come back anytime soon.
I did share my feedback with the staff when paying. They were friendly and apologized, but typically, you’d expect some kind of gesture, like a replacement, especially when it’s clear the meal didn’t hit the mark.
In the end, while there are some good things going on here, the inconsistency makes it hard to justify the price. It’s a place with potential, but they’ve got...
Read moreHidden place on a quiet street off the main road. An impressive wall of jars filled with preserved goodies will stop you to have a look. However the breads didn't impress me. I was imagining some gooey goodness from Cubano (think: the scene in "Chef") but it was lacking the cheese element. In all of the Italian-style sandwiches I tried, the emphasis was on the pickled veggies displayed on the wall, not so much on fresh ingredients. Way too overpowering and it threw me off. I feel like I keep picking the wrong ones, which shouldn't be the case after a couple tries...The sandwiches also cost less with a drink, an incentive to buy one, right? The drink selection caters to coffee drinkers with many interesting flavors but a simple filter coffee was no better than what you'd get from a gas station. 😞 Luckily the delicious freshly sqeezed ice cold orange juice didn't fail me, it was exactly what I needed on a summer day! The place has potential, but I might have to go through the whole list first to be...
Read moreWe tried two sandwiches, neither of which were great in my opinion. Too much meat and at the same time too much bread? The Italian roast beef tasted more Asian than Italian (probably due to the beef cooking style and spices) and the bread was wet. I would say the bread choice was wrong for both of the sandwiches. The meat quality was IMO average, but its taste was prevailing due to the quantity of it. I also don't like that if you don't buy a drink the sandwich is more expensive, I understand the business side of it, but I don't appreciate it from the point of view of a customer who doesn't buy beverages. You could probably reshape how that is presented in the menu to make it less obvious to customers. The coffee we bought was also very hard to drink. I'll try again in a couple months, giving them the benefit of the doubt 🙂.
Update: I went again, the 3rd sandwich I tried was worse than...
