L'Oeil de Boeuf — Restaurant in Épernay

My husband and I went there for a date night yesterday, as we were impressed with the menu on their website. Sadly it didn't quite hit the mark for us. Although the food was okay (though both the beef tartare and gazpacho were very under seasoned and the menu was quite different from the one on their website), the service at the restaurant was exceptionally slow. It took at least 15-20 minutes to even be able to place an order and after that it took another 15 minutes (and several times asking) to receive our drink. We also had to ask for water and ice countless times before we actually received them and the food took even longer. It was very difficult to get the attention of the servers as they seemed to be quite overwhelmed.

So l was ready to sing the praises of this place, but after starting out as the only table on a Thursday night at 8 pm and being shushed because we were "loud Americans" while a loud French table sat next to us, I suggest finding another location for dinner. Excellent little place tucked further away from touristy areas of Epernay. We do not speak French, so were not expecting much but boy were we wrong. The service was excellent, everyone were very friendly and attentive. We came in with a dog, and were made very welcome. Our dog was giving a bowl of water and some kibble. Very happy!
