We ate here as a family of four and had a fantastic evening. The restaurant is very, very French and that’s its charm. The atmosphere is bustling and fun and the restaurant hot from the open wood fire the meat is cooked on. We shared the cote de bouef and had the chicken curry and mash (was surprisingly excellent that one!). My daughter is a veggie and found at least some dishes to eat. The food here is excellent - just true to what you’d want from a traditional French brasserie like this. If you want thermometer measured steak (I think rare here is the best and maybe only choice) or fawning US style, service then you will be disappointed. The sevice is undeniably patchy (we got the wrong sides for instance) and I’m sure sometimes it runs slow, but overall this is just a fantastic way to spend an evening with great food, good wine and a load of skiers having a good time. I come here at least once every year I ski in Val D, know what to expect and am never disappointed. I doubt the owners even read these reviews, or even care what people say to be honest as this place is always busy. If you’re prepared to go with the flow you’ll have a great evening. Do book though as you won’t get in off the street, except maybe for the 9:30pm sitting. And make room for a round of home made Genepi at...
Read moreThe food was overall good, cozy interior and the feeling was qualitative. However: A bit expensive in relationship to the quality compare to other places. This takes away 1 star. The waitress seemed to be having a bad day. She was a bit short, no smile, felt annoyed by us, and didn't respond to our needs until it almost was too late. I guess it was only a bad-luck-day, with another large group in the room taking up her energy. But for the price we pay, not feeling comfortable will take away the 2nd star. We ordered the big Côte de Boeuf, and asked several times for the chef's recommendation on how it should be cooked, but they didn't wanted to give any recommendation. So we had to guess, and asked for "medium/rare", which usually is a good compromise. When we got the boeuf it was unfortunately NOT medium/rare, rather medium/well. Since the cooking time is so long, and it was very late in the evening + we are environment & waste cautious , we accepted to have it anyway without complaint, and were OK with it for now.. But for this type of restaurant and the price we pay, it is not acceptable to not know how to cook meat properly. This take away the 3rd star.
Big thanks anyway and sorry for only rating 2. I would come back again if the things above is...
Read moreOn arrival the place seemed quite dated, very small, with little room for guests. We had pre booked a table of 7 and were sat alongside another table of 4. To begin with, the starters we receieved were satisfactory, snails had a taste as if they had just been dug up from the mud and put on a plate, the onion soup was extremely watery. We were very excited for the cote de bouef as it looked the part, but when it came to eating, it was very disappointing. Nothing about the steak was tender, extremely chewy. And when we made this complaint to the short blonde hair waitress we were met with ‘well no one else has complained, do you understand what type of cut this meat is’ rather than apologising, she was argumentative and suggested we didn’t know what a steak should taste like… (one of the guests is a buctcher!). We ordered 2 of these dishes, there was no apology, or any change to the final bill. Would not recommend wasting your money in this place where the staff are clearly untrained in...
