Update: Just returned [again] and it's become worse! Beer menu has not changed in over two months - it used to change each every few weeks! The chips, Oh my goodness, they were inedible even by British standards and certainly not up to the world famous version from Arras! We had to sit on the terrace in the freezing wind and we were offered blankets like we were camping!? We ate quickly and found a new place to drink which was very busy and buzzing! Chez Marcel has sunk unfortunately and is now totally unpopular and dead - unrecognisable from it's premier years when you had to squeeze in for a space! Sad times as it was once exceptional for Arras.
I've been coming here since June 2022. Unfortunately our recent three visits [24, 26 and 27 June] have left us rather disappointed. Marcel was nowhere to been seen. Service very slow. Most disappointing of all is the limited draft beer and even more limited is local and regional beer. Why there are so many beers from Occitane I am unsure. We love how this place used to be and hope the magic will return in the...
Read moreOur food and service at Chez Marcel was unparalleled for three reasons. 1) Hands down the best customer service in all of our travels in Europe. We received a thorough and insightful overview of the beers and food we ordered. 2) The quality of the food and beer was top notch. We tried 5 beers and split the Welsh, burger, and carbonnade flamande. Our first foray into the two local dishes, we ordered a second Welsh because it went quickly. We also indulged in the brownie and the Marcel glacé, which I highly recommend. 3) As a family with children, we appreciated the numerous board games on hand.
Thank you to Marcel, the owner, for making it a memorable evening. We can’t wait...
Read moreWas not expecting to find such a great beer bar in France (sorry, France)! Wide selection of beers, some French and some from as far away as Canada. My Canadian boyfriend was very pleased to find Deu Du Ciel! On tap as they do not seem to serve it here in the UK. The owner (Marcel, I assume?) is very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about beer, excellent English speaker, too! A little pricier than bars in the two squares of Arras bit totally worth a visit if you crave incredible beer on draft and a pleasant atmosphere both inside and outside the bar. Will visit again if I find myself in Arras...
