Restaurant O'Papilles — Restaurant in Avignon

Very disappointed. I took my wife here for our last night in Avignon and was disappointed in most of what we ordered, and extremely disappointed in the order of service. The waiter was nice, but we watched as food for three tables that ordered after we did were served their main course. I’m not sure if they lost our ticket or what the problem was but we sat there without food for a very long time as people who ordered after us were served and even finished their main course. We ordered two appetizers and two main courses, of which only the carrot soup was very good. We had planned on having the cheese plate and dessert but left after finally having been served and finishing our main course. If this was ever a Michelin star or recommended restaurant then they have fallen very far from that level. I hear there are other very good restaurants in this town. I don’t understand the rating bordering perfection

Probably it’s a matter of taste, or the biased opinion having visited many countries in the world where you can eat exceptionally good, but the “tagliatelle encornets” was incredibly tasteless, squid was very hard to eat and vegetables had no taste at all

Maybe I missunderstood what I ordered because there is no english menu (or at least haven’t been offered it), expecting to be served “tagliatelle al nero di sepia”. Very few dishes to choose from and expensive for what you get

Es fällt schwer, ein Restaurant, das so viele exzellente Beurteilungen hat, mit einem Stern zu bewerten. Sind wir zu anspuchsvoll? Verstehen wir bloß nichts von gutem Essen?

Wir wurden - das kann ich bestätigen - durchaus freundlich begrüßt. Das Bio-Bier, das ich nicht trinken konnte, wurde nicht berechnet. Ich weiß: spätestens jetzt denkt man "Wenn ihm schon das Bier nicht schmeckt... alles klar".

Wir entschieden uns dann wegen der Auswahlmöglichkeiten für das Menu zu 39€.

Als erstes kam eine kleine Pfanne mit Petersilie in kaltem Wasser - einen Geschmack konnten wir nicht wahrnehmen.

Als Vorspeise gab es für meine Frau Spargel, hart wie Stein, das was man normalerweise vom Spargel abschält, wurde mit serviert. Das Ganze in einem Schaum, der nach nichts schmeckte. Ich selbst hatte etwas mit "Foie Gras" - vier bis fünf Kugeln in Haselnuss-Größe, dazu ein paar Himbeeren. Gut, hier war immerhin ein Geschmack erkennbar.

Ich sagte danach zu meiner Frau "Das ist gleich die erste Ente, vor der ich Angst habe". Zu Recht, wie sich herausstellte! Eine Ente muß zart und knusprig sein! Diese war hart und zäh. Das Gemüse dazu schmeckte wieder einmal nach nichts.

Immerhin hatte man bei Dessert und Käse nichts falsch gemacht.

Es muss einen Grund haben, wenn ein Restaurant 4,7 Sterne hat. Aber für uns war dieser Grund leider nicht nachvollziehbar. Schade um 90 Euro.
