If this were the only café in France, I would still hesitate to recommend it.
My disappointment started the moment that I darkened the doorway of this establishment. There was a long queue of tourists when we entered, which created quite a chaotic scene. I decided on the formule petit déjeuner, which claimed to consist of a tartine, coffee of choice, confiture, and orange juice for about €9. I was quite hungry and was looking forward to a somewhat filling breakfast.
In reality, the “tartine” was simply a plain, dry baguette with no topping whatsoever. Not a tartine by any stretch of the imagination. Had the café not been teeming with other customers at the moment, I certainly would have said something to the staff, but I did not feel like spending even more time in the queue and prolonging this dismal experience. The orange juice was also very disappointing - instead of regular orange juice, I received a bottled version with added sugar and not a hint of freshness.
Coffee was okay. We also ordered a couple of croissants, which weren’t flaky or crisp but tasted okay. My boyfriend ordered a vegetarian quiche, and while lacking flavor and slightly over-baked, it was edible.
If I ever come back to Avignon, I will make a point of avoiding this place since I don’t find it rewarding to pay €9 for a breakfast with no taste...
Read moreI am surprised at the reviews talking about the kindness of the staff; this was not our experience. We clearly made a cultural, language, or other mistake and were being made fun of right in front of our face. Well-trained staff would have waited until we left. Edit: Extra context, the night before, my daughter (who has passed French at the ECRL B2 level) was treated very dismissively and rudely here in my presence. However, we didn't believe in making a snap judgement so came and spent around 40 Euros since the store was near us. In the end, we believed we were also treated rudely. I have only ever given two reviews lower than 4 stars. So yes, while I certainly need a French course I anticipate it would also be useful if I joined your staff in taking an...
