LE SURFING BIARRITZ — Restaurant in Bayonne

I went to book a table (speaking french)in this restaurant which had been recommended to me by a friend. It is in a superb location, one of two restaurants on the very busy Cote de Basques beach. The maitre 'd explained (i felt through gritted teeth) that during the day they had a limited menu (4 items to choose from) and no booking policy. He said I should come back and queue but it should be no problem at the time we wanted to eat.This I did. On my return, there was one couple waiting to be seated and they were seated straight away. This couple asked to change their seat to a window seat(free tables available in restaurant) When the maitre d returned to us(4), he told us in a very unpleasant manner that the kitchen was too busy (despite having a limited menu?) and that we would have to wait an hour. I was shocked, it was as clear that the rude man did not want our business. I did not budge but waited calmly in the restaurant only to be asked by him what I was doing waiting and that I would have to come back in an hour. What a terrible client service. I came with my friend and first the place was empty and they didn’t let us sit in a table with shade (there was too much sun). We ordered a plate of cheese and fromage plus some drinks and the bread was awfully dry and old, -you wouldn’t expect that from places with those prices-. I mentioned I needed to work, so as soon as we payed they told us we needed to move to the outside tables. When we sat outside a waitress moved me from table again saying the workers were going to eat in that one. Then some other clients took the table and they didn’t move them. Afterwards a very pedant lady with banks and a wannabe posh attitude said I couldn’t be on any table because they were all booked… while the restaurant was still empty, just three tables were being used. She later said in the most pedant way “I also need to work”. I mean they barely serve food you can find in carrefour but with awful prices and very unqualified people who are in desperate need to be trained in client service. Terrible customer service. Although we booked a table we ended up sitting at a tiny table at the back of the restaurant between the bar and the main walkway for waiters and customers. Not relaxing at all as there was a lot of foot traffic. The owner is so uptight and responds to customers (in general, not just us) with a lot of attitude. When we asked if there wasn't a better table we were told everything was booked although there were empty tables, but those were kept for anyone who just walked in and that the owner knew. After 10 minutes waiting for service, we made the decision to leave. It's not a cheap restaurant, yet I felt I was sitting at McDonald's.
