Le Bistro Des Cocottes — Restaurant in Beaune

Overrated I am afraid. It was a cold and miserable Tuesday evening and the reviews tempted us to try here. To our surprise they were busy despite the weather and time of year/week etc and we had to be squeezed in. As I looked at the menu I started to have doubts, but by this time we were pretty committed and the weather made walking around unattractive, so we stayed put.

My wife and I both had magret, which was pleasant enough if a little overpriced - this is Beaune, I appreciate, but I looked at other restaurant menus after our meal and they were priced lower and I doubt the quality would have been different - may even have been better as the kitchen here was a little too busy.

The magret was served with a so-so pureed potato and I ordered frites mainly out of curiosity and was disappointed, to say the least, to be served a portion of "scooper chips" that had come straight from a freezer bag.

As the place was full, the atmosphere was quite nice, the staff friendly enough if a little over-stretched - we didn't get bread and nor did the next table to us, but I saw that others did and I didn't want it TBH but as an indication of the service level it belies the reputation other reviews have suggested.

There was nothing terrible, but I wouldn't go back and I couldn't recommend it. Oh, and I see that from other reviewers photos you can even see the scooper chips, which would have made me run a mile if I had my laptop with me and had seen that before visiting. This is France, afer all, and we are entitled to expect...

It’s hard to say enough good things about this Bistro, Des Cocottes. In a town with over 200 restaurants, most of which cater to tourists, this place is special: it’s mostly locals, people who really know and appreciate great food. the chef who is the owner, prepares things based on the season and locally sourced ingredients. Yes you have regional classics but also a lot of other things that he decides to put on the menu making it unusual and interesting it’s rounded out by a terrific wine list.

We’ve eaten there three times on this trip, every time the place is full of people enjoying themselves, the soundtrack is laughter and happiness, the smells are perfect and the food makes you glad...

This place was wonderful. It has a fun location and easy to get to from our air-bnb. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. I would definitely recommend a reservation because it was packed for all seatings. The service was wonderful and very attentive. They explained the menu in detail and we loved our food and the deserts. There was a wide range of choices dinner and the wine list was very nice.
