This is a stupendous historical landmark of great significance not only in Beaune but of France. Founded in the mid fourteen hundred as a charitable organisation for the poor and the disadvantaged, this Hospices de Beaune was realised. The entrance with its majestic walls are a fantastic introduction to the rest of this gorgeous building. The building inside is a rectangular central courtyard surrounded by the original setting of the hospital. The austere Burgundy glazed terracotta tiles are absolutely magnificent. You are allowed access to almost every rooms in this building except the verandah rooms upstairs as they weren't accessible to the public when I visited. But, I was in for a real treat! I could almost sense the dedicated works of nurses and doctors and everyone involved in this institution all those years ago! I spent an hour and a bit exploring this place. There's wheelchair accessible entrance but just be aware of the uneven surface of the forecourt. There's public lavatory and a gift shop. I walked from Gare de Beaune here and I didn't notice public transportation from the station. This is mindblowingly a must explore and visit historical landmark in Beaune. I'm currently staying in Dijon on holidays and you can easily catch a train to and from Beaune and fairly regular train services....
Read moreWOW!! Whatta an incredible Museum. About 576 years ago, this building [and, its predecessors] was a "hospital for the poor". It is now recognised as a "UNESCO monument"... and, a visit can provide one with an "incredible, interesting, historical perspective" as the the "many highlights" over the past 6 centuries! TripAdvisor also has recognised the Museum with its "Certificate of Excellence". The architecture, featuring glazed tiles on the roofs, as well as the various "themed" rooms (e.g. medical implements used over the ages). The "Beaune Region"is very beautiful with many well tended vineyards... and, is recognised for producing some of France's most famous red wines. The "audio guide"/recorded tour" lets one experience the Museum at one's own pace. The Museum still supports its initial role-- "aiding the poor with health issues". It will be exceedingly memorable, as well as worthy of such a visit!!
