IBAÏA Café — Restaurant in Bordeaux

We initially sat outside next to a couple who were eating so we assumed we were able to order food at these tables. The waiter arrived and asked for our drinks order, we ordered a round of drinks while accessing the menu via our phones from a QR code on the table itself. We were waiting for the server to return to take our order for food but despite catching his eye several times and being acknowledged he continued to serve other tables to the point where one of our group had to go to the bar to request service as we had been waiting in excess of 30 mins. Our party member spoke to the barman who had brought our drinks to the table and he stated that he would sort it. When the server finally attended it was made out to be our communication issue as we had not stated when ordering drinks that we wanted food however, we were never asked and after our drinks had been delivered we were not approached again until we approached them.

The food itself was good however in regards to the grill dishes if you are going, be aware there is no side dishes supplied. When ordering a pork chop, that is literally what I got. Although can’t fault them as in the menu it did just state pork chop but you may wanna order a side dish. Salads were of a good size and decent quality.

J'ai récemment visité le restaurant Ibaia Café avec une collègue après le travail. Le lieu est charmant, et nous avons été accueillis par un serveur noir avec des locks, très professionnel et chaleureux, bien que je ne connaisse pas son prénom. Notre table a été servie rapidement.

Cependant, je souhaite m'adresser directement à la direction concernant une situation désagréable. Votre chef de salle, nommé Seb (de petite taille et trapu), se comporte de manière insupportable avec son équipe, ce dont vous devez sûrement être informés. Il invective les serveurs devant la clientèle avec un visage tendu et une attitude négative, ce qui est inacceptable. Si ce monsieur a des problèmes personnels (dettes ect.. ) il ne doit pas en faire pâtir vos clients et vos employés.

Mais ce n'est pas tout : son comportement envers les clients est tout aussi répréhensible. En me levant pour aller aux toilettes, je me suis adressée à lui poliment en disant : "Excusez-moi, je souhaiterais avoir la carte des tapas s'il vous plaît." À ma grande surprise, il m'a répondu de manière agressive : "Bonjour déjà !! Ohhh, on n'est pas cousins !!!" Ce ton incroyable est inadmissible, surtout envers une femme de 50 ans comme moi.

Même si j'avais peut-être oublié de dire bonjour en début de phrase, un professionnel aurait pu me le rappeler avec tact. Cependant, je tiens à souligner que je suis une femme d'origine maghrébine de 50 ans, et je doute fortement qu'il aurait adopté le même ton envers une femme blanche, blonde aux yeux bleus. Sa remarque "Ohhh, on n'est pas cousins" était clairement une insinuation discriminatoire basée sur mon origine. C'est lamentable !

J'ai également entendu des échos de jeunes étudiants Erasmus qui ont quitté leur poste en larmes après seulement deux jours, incapables de supporter ce personnage aigri et misogyne. La réputation de votre établissement en pâtit gravement à cause de ce chef de salle.

Je vous recommande vivement de prendre des mesures immédiates pour remplacer ce chef de salle afin de préserver la réputation de votre restaurant. Je travaille dans le quartier, et je serais attristée de voir cet endroit charmant perdre des clients à cause d'un comportement aussi...

Because of Ibaïa's great location along the river Garonne, we regularly go there for a coffee or a nice glass of wine. The other day we were there for dinner and we all loved it.

Although France is still pretty much behind other countries in terms of vegetarian options, there were a couple of vegetarian tapas on the menu but unfortunately no vegetarian options as a mains, but it was ok for us. A next time we have to let them know in advance the manager told us. We still think that in 2025, there should be at least one vegetarian / plant-based option on a French menu.

Having said that, IBAÏA Café is a great place to be and the staff is very friendly and helpful ..... we'll definitely go back there for a good...
