The food was a mixed bag: scallops (appetizer; "Coquille de St Jacobs gratinee") were excellent (definitely worth ordering), "4 sassions" pizza was excellent, "napolitiane" pizza (with anchovies) was too salty, fish soup was pretty good, Escargot (6x) were good, Sea bass ("fillet de Bar") was deep fried/oily but tasted good, table bread well below par for France as was the creme brulee (hot bowl, cold inside, burned sugar crust). Overall this was comparable to the restaurant we went to the night before (Brasserie Les Oyat in Wimeruex).
Service was good - not fast but also not rude like others experienced (FTR: we are all German/causcasian; several speak reasonable french).
I'm giving a 5-star review for service because a family member of the staff offered to (and did) drive us (4 adults) back to Wimereux after my brother-in-law went back in to ask where we could find a taxi. She told us a taxi would be expensive (30-40 EUR), it was a short drive (10 minutes) and she was happy to have the company. After hiking 10+ km that day, and it was getting late, it was unbelievable how generous she was and that's going to make this place special to me for this...
Read moreMy wife and our 2 year old, stopped here on a Sunday evening for a desert, the last night of our trip. We asked the member of staff in English and in French if we could have a desert. The member of staff said yes and showed us to our seat in the beautiful square, the restaurant was a quarter full at best. Ten minutes passed and we had still not been spoken to by a member of staff regarding make an order - not even our drinks! Inexplicably other tables who arrived after us had been served!!!! So I took it upon myself to go in to the bar and order from there. A very stressed and disheveled member of staff informed us that you can't just order desert! I explained that not only did a member of staff say we could order deserts, it also says it on their menu at the front!!! Luckily our toddler is well behaved, and wed brought her an appropriate desert with us, otherwise this could have been even more problematic. I explained in English and French that we had been sat there for 10 minutes but they showed little remorse. We had to vote with our feet and leave. Shocking experience all round. Under no circumstances should...
Read moreWe visited in June on a family trip. The food was fair but the service was appalling. Their card reader wasn't working which isn't our fault. However the owner decided it was us at fault and after trying every single one of our cards (4) they threw my card across the counter at me. I explained it must be the card reader but they were very rude and abrupt. We stood by and waited for other customers to have the same problem and guess what there was an issue with the reader! However they marched my daughter 2 miles to the nearest cash machine so we could pay our bill. Although I was offering to bank transfer. The older server possibly the owner/manager was very rude and was telling the other customers that we were broke in French hoping I guess that we wouldn't understand the insult. Not surprisingly they didn't treat the locals in the same manner, and simply said never mind to them. it was a very belittling experience. Avoid at all costs. There are plenty of other lovely local restaurants in the area unless you like the Fawlty...
