We ordered the most expensive menu. The starter was OK. But the main dish was a filet steak. I ordered blue, and my wife medium. I got a medium steak which was acceptable. But my wife got a piece of garbage meat which was more tendons and fat than regular meat and it was not cooked at all in parts. When you lifted it up it was small pieces of meat held together with tendons and fat. It was what the chef was supposed to cut away and throw in the bin. And then the desert. It was a plate of mixed stuff. One was supposed to be panna cotta. Well, it was as liquid as cream. The cooks at work this day were clearly not caring about quality at all. On top of it this ended up as the most expensive meal of the week. We have had excellent food in Carcassonne and we have been impressed with how much quality we got for the money. And we do not care about price. We are willing to pay for quality. Le Chaudron did not deliver quality today on April 19th 2017. It was the "they are just tourists, to hell with them"...
Read moreCarcassone medieval city has a good selections of restaurants. The only problem is that they all serve very similiar dishes (beside the local specialty - cassoulet). Le chaudron is one of them - don't expect any innovations, but decent and good food.
Even for dinner they offer three value menus (and choices of dishes inside the menu) - 16.50 (19.50 if you order cassoulet), 25 (20 with only 2 dishes) and 35 EUR. In general combos are of a great value (individual dishes are, on the hand, prices very high)! The menu itself is not too long.
Food was in general very good (we had a duck breasts, cassoulet,...), open red wine wine was surprisingly good. Dishes they offer, they prepare well. But beware, portions are really big.
Service - a bit hit and miss, but in general ok.
On a rainy evening better have a reservation as this place can get packed inside (as almost anywhere in...
Read moreWe were looking forward to visiting this restaurant given the amazing reviews but I can genuinely say it was one of the worse meals I have ever eaten.
The menu was limited so we skipped starters and ordered the 'piece of beef'. Upon ordering I asked the waiter what type of cut it was and he said fillet. When it arrived it was a large, thin, extremely tough steak which tasted off. I eat fillet regularly and have had it in restaurants across the world and I can categorically say it was not a fillet and it was one of the worst steaks (if not the worse steak) I have ever eaten!
We left without finishing our meal feeling very dissatisfied!! Disappointing as the reviews looked great but the food was unfortunately horrendous! Unsure if it was because it was out of season but this place only deserves 1 star,...
