Amazing place well worth the approx 2 hrs for a visit. Well priced and free under 18. Go early to avoid slow flow and book a ticket in advance.
12 euros for me and free for my two traveling companions. That’s with a booked time slot.
I’ve just gone and looked through a bunch of whiners leaving 1 star. Get real. For one of the lowest costs of any castle visit you see all aspects of an amazingly preserved and restored piece of history.
If you are complaining about lines and the ticket process, buy online easily and book a time slot! The castle and site don’t deserve a low rating because you can’t plan ahead.
If you are complaining about it being hot, again how is that the fault of the historic site. Go earlier in the day or avoid summer. It’s just that easy.
There are other complaints about not being able to take your dog, or you couldn’t take your food in. Folks like this need to grow up and appreciate the history. It isn’t Disneyland which, hmm wouldn’t let you bring your dog or ice cream either.

If you bother to read and pay attention (just for those that commented it’s a garbage tourist trap) it’s as meaningful as any historic site visit.
The people complaining about the above will probably give Versailles or the Louvre one star. It’s ok. Some people just can’t be pleased and should...

Walking through its historic gates, we were transported back in time, exploring the rich history and architectural marvels that have stood the test of time. The views from the ramparts were breathtaking, providing panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside.
The nighttime illumination tour was equally magical. The castle, bathed in ethereal light, took on a mystical aura. The guided tour provided fascinating insights into the history and legends of Carcassonne, and the light displays highlighted the castle’s architectural features in a new and enchanting way. It was a mesmerizing experience that left us in awe.
Overall, Carcassonne Castle is a must-visit. Its blend of history, architecture, and atmosphere makes it a remarkable destination both by day and night. Highly...

LADY CARCAS
The legendary heroine of Carcassonne.
Here is the story: "Dame Carcas, queen
Sarrasinia, defends the City alone with a few soldiers when the Emperor Charlemagne comes to block the city for five years. Supplies are running out quickly. Dame Carcas then has an idea: she feeds the last pig with wheat found in the reserves. From the tallest tower in the city she throws the pig over the battlements. He crashes to the ground, in front of Charlemagne who thinks the inhabitants have so much food that they throw it over the ramparts! The Emperor, convinced that the City will never surrender, breaks camp and leaves. Dame Carcas, delighted that her ruse is working, rings all the bells in town. A knight hears this and says to Charlemagne: “Sire, Dame Carcas rings! ".
And since then, the city is called...
