Last night, Monday, we had a limited selection of restaurant to chose from. I read good reviews about Saint Jean and so we went there for dinner. It was probably our mistake to chose a table outside at this Timmendorfs of the year. Wind protection boards were set up and the view we almost zero and the atmosphere not so nice, looking at the makeshift wall. We both ordered the steak with a sauce incl. french fries. Both our cuts of meat were very unpleasant, a lot of chewy tissue in-between a not very good tasting meat. The size was o.k. But we both did not finish the meet because we did not enjoy it. The pepper sauce as well as the cheese sauce also had a weak flavor and did not add much to the meal. The recommended wine we ordered was good and the highlight of the evening. Service: the place was very empty, only 3 - 4 tables occupied. We hardly saw a waiter while we were there. No one asked if the food was o.k., no one offered to pore more wine, asked if we want desert of coffee…Hopefully they just had a bad Monday but we have certainly no interest to go back to...
Read moreThis low rating does not reflect on the quality of food or the ambience of the place. An incident occoured while I was dining, whereupon while I was still eating my dinner, a waiter approached and proceeded to collect my plate! (Rule no:1 is not to disturb anyone while they're still eating, especially in a respectable place.) Anyway, in the process, the waiter managed to disturb my glass of red wine. He spilled it on me, my clothes and shoes and broke the glass! I accept that accidents happens, but this incident is avoidable. The staff, including the manager was around to try and solve this problem. On the comical side, one suggested that she should pour white wine on my already soaken attire. The manager enquired, what can be done to resolve this issue and I said, " What would you do if the situation was reversed! " The answer, " I don't know!" All I want to do was leave by then. My evening has been spoilt! Please let me know, what would you suggest in this situation? All suggestions...
Read moreInside the medieval city walls and very close to our lodgings, we ate here on our first night in Carcassonne and were stunned by the friendly atmosphere and wonderful food. We were so impressed that on our second day, we quickly decided to return and the food was just as amazing as we had on the previous evening. A family owned business, Chef Peloute is clearly very talented and his wife Nathalie runs the front of house with a wonderfully welcoming and friendly efficiency. The staff obviously enjoy their work and colleagues; Oliver, Doria, Meven and Mia were fun, friendly and fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble, such as adding a sauce on request and this restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone wishing to soak up the ambience of medieval Carcassonne with some of the best food we’ve tasted in a very long time. Massive thanks to you all, Nathalie and team, for helping so much to make our holiday extra-special. We...
