Restaurant Café des Bains — Restaurant in Chambéry

This restaurant has been around since 1881. Some of the best food I have ever had in my life. I started off with some smoked salmon. Large portion, beautiful texture and not too oily. For mains I had steak and french fries (see picture) and meringue pie for dessert. Beautiful location with coblestoon streets. Outdoor dining area was perfect to watch the world go buy. Our waitress Juliet and Valerie made us feel so comfortable ans describes all of the dishes for us and Bruno the chef came out to make sure the food was all OK. 10/10. I came here in June 2024 with 5 friends and oh my goodness I think it was the best food I have eaten in France. The black truffle ham started was INCREDIBLE and such a generous portion. Ambiance Gatsby et jazz age, voilà ce que je cherchais ce jours-là.

Et avec cette terrasse intemporelle qui rappelle les meilleurs cafés de la capitale, on est tout de suite aguiché.

Je découvre alors l’une des institutions aixoises : le Café des Bains, plus vieux café de la ville (fondé en 1881 !). L’accueil chaleureux du couple de gérants nous fait tout de suite sentir chez soi. Et une fois la peau du ventre tendue par un succulent burger, ses frites fraîches maison, et la tarte citron meringuée spécialité de la maison : encore plus !

En tournant la tête on aperçoit les portraits de personnalités ayant séjourné à Aix, et potentiellement venues se prélasser dans ces lieux : Greta Garbo, Fernandel, Rita Hayworth, et bien-sûr notre chère reine Victoria (qui vu son sérieux sur la photo n’avait sans doute pas encore goûté la tarte citron).

Le Café des Bains est donc bien la preuve que le bon goût pour les bonnes choses...
