🇫🇷 What I Ate in Antibes Over 2 Days

It was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience I have ever had. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and upon arrival I genuinely thought I would enjoy a pleasant and peaceful evening. However, I never even had the chance to try the food, as a waitress chose to yell at us, insult us, and ultimately expel us from the restaurant. The entire incident began simply because one person at our table did not wish to order a main course (we were three women). After we had already been seated for 30 minutes, the waitress suddenly informed us that it was mandatory for every guest to order a main dish. We found this unreasonable and I questioned why such a rule had not been communicated earlier—especially since we had been left unattended for half an hour without any explanation. The rule was not displayed anywhere, nor was it mentioned at the time of booking. At that point, the waitress completely lost control. She raised her voice, said it was not her problem if she had taken so long to serve us, and then outright refused to wait on us, demanding that we leave immediately. The most disturbing part was that she continued insulting us in French, assuming we would not understand. Yet her tone, body language, and hostility made it absolutely clear that what she was expressing was nothing but anger, aggression, and disrespect. It is unacceptable that a restaurant with such a pleasant atmosphere and such a friendly, inviting online presence would employ someone so unprofessional, unbalanced, and incapable of dealing respectfully with customers—especially in a tourist location where staff must be prepared to serve people of different nationalities. What this experience taught me is that in a restaurant, the quality of service and the way customers are treated are more important than the setting itself. A beautiful place is meaningless if the service is poor. Chez Jules urgently needs to address this issue by ensuring their staff are professional, respectful, and able to interact appropriately with guests. At one point, I even feared the situation might escalate further into physical aggression. Finally, if there truly is a rule requiring every guest to order a main course, it should be clearly stated in advance—either on the menu or at the time of booking—to prevent such unnecessary and humiliating situations in the future.

Even if I agree that your food is fantastic, you guys need to re-evaluate your service. l would have given this place a 4 stars, however the server responsible for your outdoor seating was unreasonable. When an outdoor table freed up, my friends and I (3 pax) requested to be seated outdoor - we have yet to be seated yet. However the outdoor server mentioned that we can wait for that outdoor table at their indoor area, at another table. Unknowingly we agreed to be waited there. After what seemed like an eternity, the outdoor server refused to look at us even though that outdoor table was still empty. I politely asked the indoor server to move us over as promised by them, and the outdoor server refused (with no other customers waiting) with no reasons given. After forcing to get an answer, he told the indoor server that the seating arrangement was different. It had the identical seating arrangement! Had we known that the staff was dishonest, we would have left for other restaurants. Your indoor server (young dude with spectacles) was however nicer as he knew what was happening from the beginning, and offered us some tomatoes apologetically. I have nothing to comment on your food, since you guys have failed in your service. You could have rejected us but instead, you guys chose the other way. This is something i cannot accept for businesses.

Don’t be fooled, it’s a touristic nightmare (unless that’s your thing). I was charged €45 for the pasta special which was disgusting overcooked boxed spaghetti with oily and completely unrecognizable lobster. The salade nicoise had no taste on account of poor quality ingredients like tuna straight from a can, without the water properly drained, which pooled at the bottom of the bowl. Eww. You can make something nicer on your vacation by going to the grocery store or morning market. The waitstaff pushed heavily the house cocktail saying it was so lovely, it was just so basic and uninteresting and they cleared it from my table before I even finished it. After literally one bite of the pasta I sent it away and they still charged me for it. I had to take it up with the hostess until they cleared it from the check. I speak a little bit of French and in going between languages the waiter said “I’m sorry madame but do you speak French or not” which was pretty insane. Don’t let your research fool you the way mine did, most people who visit this type of restaurant do not know fine cuisine. Also the decor is cartoonish and ghastly, attempting authenticity. I should have left as soon...
