Not as Good as It Used to Be
We used to love visiting Café des Arcades at least twice a week during the spring and summer months when staying in Valbonne. The charming atmosphere always made it a highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, over time, the service has significantly declined, and we’ve been consistently disappointed on recent visits.
While some of the staff are friendly, others come across as inattentive or even rude. For instance, just two nights ago we dined there with friends. We began ordering dinner, but before we had a chance to request appetizers, the waiter had already rushed off without listening.
Though the service is fast, it feels unnecessarily frantic. Staff rush around cleaning tables as if in a panic, creating a chaotic environment—even when there are no guests waiting. As a customer, it’s difficult to get the attention of a waiter without making an effort that feels almost intrusive. When trying to order more wine the waiter made us feel like we are a nuisance, but he should infact be asking us if we would like to order another bottle.
We own two restaurants ourselves, and we understand that attentive service is essential to increasing sales and ensuring a pleasant guest experience. That means clearing tables promptly, ensuring glasses aren’t left empty, and making guests feel welcome to order more. Unfortunately, at Café des Arcades, dirty dishes are often left untouched, and you’re rarely asked if you’d like another drink—you have to actively seek out a waiter yourself.
We genuinely love this place and hope management will take this feedback to heart. With a little more attention to guest experience and a calmer, more attentive approach to service, Café des Arcades could easily return to being the wonderful spot...
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years..it was always about the ambience..the food was secondary and basic. Then things started to look up, blackboard menu with mouthwatering dishes of the day , more staff and better service. Now we were attracted by the food , the ambience wasn't going anywhere and now we were enjoying the menu. Unfortunately, as all good things they come to an end...I booked a table, was running late and politely called to apologise for my delay. No one answered...no problem. Told the host I tried to call ,he held up the phone and said ..".well the phone is here..." as in it never rang...so your didn't call. So now I am a polite liar. The chicken escalope had to be sent back...it was pink. This isn't a steak and no one wants salmonella as much as the ambience is nice. My Arcade bowl was lacklustre: lacking in taste and fresh fruit ( both the pineapple pieces and mango were spiky on my tongue). So ambience or not..I shall be giving this local...
Read moreCHECK YOUR BILL ! We have been coming to this restaurant for 27 years, as we live locally,
Food is generally very good, service was all over the place today, one of our dishes came out with out the main ingredient, and two of our dishes came out late so our guests had already got through their meal.
But my main disappointment today, was the Bill, when my daughter and I ate at the restaurant on Tuesday last week, the Bill came with and extra meal on it, when the Bill came today, it came with an extra meal on it again. both around 20 euros. The explanation was given on both occasions by two older gentlemen waiters.." sorry but the last waiter had not cleared down the till from the previous clients" So the previous people before us must’ve eaten and drank the same as us, but had one extra meal than us ????
On both occasions we had arrived at the restaurant at Midi. I really hope this is a genuine mistake, and not a way for gaining an extra 20 Euros through...
