Let me begin by stating that the food was quite good ( fish and chips for two of us, a baked Brie with ham and toast for my wife and a menu du jour for 20 euros which incled a choice of entree, a main plate and a dessert) for me. I ordered a beer, my wife a glass of rose and our friends each ordered a glass of red wine, all very good. We asked when we ordered that the bill be split between the 2 couples so that each could pay their own share of the 74 euro bill, our waiter said that he would do that for us.. We had done this several times earlier in our trip without any dfficulty. The waiter, who appeared not very happy, to be serving us refused to split the bill at the end of our meal. In addition he refused to bring a second carafe of tap water to the table after being politely asked twice. Because we are two American couples traveling together and wanted to keep our expenses separate. I then took the bill with my friend’s credit card in hand to the cashier within the restaurant who again said that she could not split the bill at which point our waiter arrived, grabbed my friend’s credit card out of my hands and entered the bill into his hand held credit card reader without my friend even present. He gave me the receipt and walked away...end of story. We walked away in disbelief; my friend was not even asked to sign the receipt. After we walked away we realized that the waiter had charged us not for 3 glasses of wine but for 5, an overcharge for 2 glasses of wine, which of course added further to the automatically included 18 % service fee. We all felt badly treated not only by the waiter but by the woman at the cashier station. We felt the waiter to be insolent and a terrible example set by someone who should be treating his customers with respect. I am a 72 year old physician in the USA and had I treated a patient in such a way, I would have been severely reprimanded by our Human Relations department for such disregard. We are going to put a stop payment on my friend’s credit card bill. 😡👎🏻👎🏻
Customer beware: if you want two separate bills MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOUR REQUEST IS UNDERSTOOD AND BE FULFILLED BEFORE YOU ORDER. AND...ALWAYS REVIEW YOUR BILL BEFORE PAYING TO INSURE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN...
Read moreI recently visited Chez Marguerite in Artibes and I must say, I was thoroughly disappointed with the level of service I received. The lack of attention and the excessive wait time in the scorching hot exterior zone left a lasting negative impression on my dining experience.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, my party and I were seated outside, which seemed like a pleasant option at first. However, it quickly turned into an uncomfortable ordeal as we were completely ignored by the staff for an extensive period of time. We were eager to order and enjoy our meal, but the waitstaff seemed disinterested and inattentive.
To make matters worse, we endured a frustrating 20-minute wait in the sweltering heat. The absence of any shade or cooling system made the experience incredibly unpleasant and uncomfortable. It is unacceptable for any establishment, especially a restaurant, to subject their customers to such conditions without taking any remedial measures.
The lack of attention and the extensive wait time not only resulted in a poor dining experience but also affected our overall impression of the restaurant. As customers, we expect to be treated with courtesy and respect, which unfortunately was severely lacking during our visit to Chez Marguerite.
I understand that busy periods can put strain on staff, but it is the responsibility of the restaurant to ensure that adequate measures are in place to handle such situations. The sheer disregard for customer satisfaction displayed by Chez Marguerite is truly disheartening.
I am deeply disappointed by the service I received at Chez Marguerite and I cannot recommend this establishment based on my experience. I hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issues raised to improve the overall dining experience for future customers.
It is my sincere hope that this review serves as a constructive criticism for Chez Marguerite, urging them to reevaluate their customer service practices and create a more welcoming and attentive atmosphere for...
Read moretl;dr Skip this place. There's one close by. That's good.
It's rare that I give a poor review, and in this case I'm partly to blame. You see when we walked up to this restaurant we didn't pull out our phones and take a look at this restaurant's rating So with it having only 3.3 of 5 stars, we would never have gone there in the first place. Also, our dinner started out okay because we ordered escargot and it was good. That said, my entree was terrible. I simply ordered spaghetti bolognese. When served it was far too hot to eat which required a lot of waiting before being able to take the first bite. Once it cooled a bit I found that the sauce was not tasty. I added a bit of Parmesan hoping that it might spruce the taste up a bit. Nope. The parmesan was a powdered Parmesan. It was terrible. After eating a few bites, I noticed that the sauce seemed to be getting watered down so I lifted the spaghetti and under it was a marsh of water. It appears that they simply pulled the spaghetti from the water, did not properly drain it, and placed it in the bowl allowing it to drain into the bowl. That is why the spaghetti was so hot that it couldn't be eaten. Further the spaghetti was overdone. It was like mush. It was at this point that we checked the ratings finding poor reviews and low scores.
So in the end if you're looking for reasonably nice atmosphere and good service, you could stop by Chez Marguerite. Maybe have an appetizer. They seem to get that right.
But I would never recommend this place for a full dinner. There are much better restaurants within a few meters...
