I ate here with my family two days ago. We tend to base our choice on unknown restaurants based on how busy they are. La Cascade was buzzing and we were asked to wait a few minutes for a table to come free. So far so good. The wood fired pizzas looked and smelled great. Unfortunately this is where the experience started to slide down hill. We waited for 5-10 minutes for menus and ended up getting one of the kids to go and get them. We then waited more for someone to take our order. In addition to the pizzas we also ordered fries and a green salad. The pizzas and drinks arrived in reasonable time but no fries or salad came. We chased and still nothing. Eventually after chasing again some more time passed by which time most of us had finished the pizzas. We sent it back and the manager guy then came over to ask why we asked for it then sent it back. We explained and he then went off in a right huff muttering words under his breath. Totally unprofessional! There was no sign of the fries. We asked for the bill and hàd to wait 10 minutes plus for that, and of course it still included the fries and salad. There was no argument getting them removed but it took another 5 minutes. We enjoyed the pizzas but the poor service simply spoilt the meal. Real shame as location in the...
Read moreTOURISTS AVOID THIS PLACE. They especially target tourists and will attempt to scam you. Lately, the waiter, who thought that I was not a local probably because of my skin color, told me that I had to pay a "VAT" of 10% in addition to what was on the bill. This is one of many techniques they have to rip you off.
But I have witnessed may other attempts to scam tourists.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Always count and list the articles you have consumed and double check the price with the menu. There is NO tax apart from VAT which is ALWAYS included within the price; There is no (and there has never been) mandatory tips in France : tips are always (by law) included in the price you pay for your food; you can always give an additional tip if you want to, but not leaving any tips is not an issue (most French people do not leave anything) : don't let waiters pressure you to tip ! Simply put : the price indicated on your bill includes everything ! You never have to pay more than what is on the ticket receipt/bill.
Always keep the meal receipt and the credit card receipt as proof. Scammers such as this restaurant will try to take back to receipt so that you don't have any evidence against them.
DO NOT HESITATE to call the police if there is any issue with...
Read moreA large restaurant in a very busy tourist area. That in itself should tell you that there are going to be very mixed reviews , not all meals are going to be perfect , service could be patchy , because they are so busy. Would you be prepared to take a chance ? We did and we had an excellent lunchtime break. We chose a 2 course option. The atmosphere was good , service was excellent The waiters and waitresses ( not over attentive ) were helpful and showed a genuine interest in where we came from , shown by the depth of our conversations. Nothing was too much trouble and it made us feel very welcome. My meal was the sardines , 6 large fish , filleted and cooked just right with a crisp skin. My wife had hake(?) in a light batter. The portions were large enough , followed by 2 delicous desserts. 2 x 50cl piches of wine and coffee , the bill was £51.00. So , from our point of view it was an excellent choice and certainly worth trying. We return to Cannes in September and will 100% be hopping on the 15 minute train ride to visit Antibes again , and lunch...
