We were staying in the square itself for a few days, and my friend recommended the restaurant as the owner had stayed in her flat for a while and had done it up. She had got on well with him. It was lunch time, warm and already quite busy, I asked the owner if there was a free table. He was rude and gave me a nasty look because I had forgotten to say 'bonjour' first, which he reminded me by saying crossly and loudly 'bonjour' before answering my question. We were both feeling quite uncomfortable and were pondering whether to go elsewhere, but as it was conveniently placed, we stayed. It is our first time in Vence, we decided to have dinner at Vence instead of St-Paul de Vence. Best decision ever. We had 1 entrée, 2 plat du jour and 1 dessert. Went home with a super full stomach. We ordered the fried sardines (Beignets de filet de sardines) for our appetiser, sardines were full and fresh. The salad was tasty too! For the mains, we had the meat mix grill and seafood plate to share. Meat was cooked to perfection, the seafood was fresh. Seasoned well too! Le Michel Ange is a little piece of heaven in Vence. It's located on beautiful Place Godeau, just behind the Cathedral.

The food, served by Michel, is amazing. I really love the salmon (as a starter or as a main dish), the beef skewer with the red wine sauce, the lamb stew with polenta or the Grand Aïoli. The last one is only served on Fridays.

If you have lunch or dinner here, you'll be amazed by all the home cooked desserts. They are all delicious. My all time favourite is the cheesecake with red fruits.
