We went today to try the restaurant. We had booked with two days in advance, yet they were not expecting us. The waiter seemed really upset about that, but we were literally only 8 people in the restaurant - didn't understand why he'd be in such mood. We asked along with our bottle of wine some tap water, which is a right in France. The same waiter insisted on bottled water - he mentioned it was 'only 5 euro' so we agreed (even though we had the right to the tap water instead). I changed the plain water for sparkling, given we were paying for it anyway. We went for one of the menus to see what they had to offer which should have included entrée, plat principal, dessert and pastries. The waiter eventually cooled off (thank god! the meal wasn't a pleasant experience with the waiter looking at us as if we'd done something wrong). We weren't even offered cheese (I guess they saw we were in a 'cheap' mood) but I overheard the other waiting explaining to other couple that gorgonzola and roquefort were the same (which... they are not, and he should know). We had a coffee, which was good, but never received the pastries (which were in the menu - we saw them arriving to other tables). On the check, the bottled water was 8. All in all an experience I won't repeat. The food was good, but I don't feel it's worth dealing with all the other things (specially when it's not...
Read moreI went there with my parents and it was a desaster - the waiter was arrogant and the dishes were not fully clean- the tea pot had lipstick left from the person before I guess. For the prices we expected more of the service. The waiter forgot the food we ordered and after placing the order again and again he forgot for who it was.
When we finally got the first course it was ok(terrine) , but for the second course we had oysters with prawn and chicken.
The chicken was rock hard and fully raw. The sauce tasted like premade sauce you can buy from the supermarket.
The oysters and prawns were smelly. One oyster was foul- it tasted like a bad egg. For the prawns: they still had their intestines in them and were not fully cleaned. The vegetables were ok.
When we explained everything to the waiter he didn’t want to understand and only said ok and that it is normal. For the dirty dishes he didn’t say anything either. Afterwards he ignored us and left us waiting.
On his reaction we decided to leave out the dessert , pay and go!
It used to be a good restaurant- we used to go there two years ago. But we will never come back as today was the worst visit we ever had in a restaurant .
Not worth the price and not worth the pain you will get in your stomach afterwards.
I would not recommend visiting this...
Read moreRegrettably Les Vieux Murs did not live up to expectations. Expensive for what is received. (e.g.45 euro for chicken which was not extraordinary). But most inexcusable is that when paying high end prices, high end service must be given. A waiter who was dressed for a cafe, shirt open and sweating and who treated us with disregard and arrogance. Took forever to get a menu when the restaurant was almost empty and then the waiter was clearly annoyed that we asked him to bring them instead of waiting. An expensive bottle of wine served full portion as a taster and then proceeded to serve other guests before it was even tasted by the host. Then left the bottle without even attending to the host glass. (who happened to be a well known producer) This reeks of low class and the waiter continued in this vain in what tourists will recognise as an arrogance and disdain for them. And as for atmosphere, the restaurant allowed a drunk guest at the table nearby to continue to swear loudly despite their being children and then warmly thanked him for his tip. I guess the tip is more important than the enjoyment of other guests. Overall, wonderful view, but this is the Cote D'Azur, plenty of choice for that and no need for overpriced...
