The food was really good, although a bit small portion. The little garden area with a huge tree in the middle was very cosy! We got there when they opened at 7PM and were lucky we got a table right under the tree. It quickly started to get busy. So be there when they open! But sadly, the service was really really bad. Started with us asking the waiter what red wine they would recommend to the beef. Got a quick and short answer back that they don’t drink red wine. Ok…? We asked then which wine is full-bodied out of the ones on the list. Again, in a short and a bit rude manner the waiter said they don’t drink red red wine.
So, even if you don’t drink red wine, as a waiter you should be able to have some knowledge about the wines you serve! It’s part of your job! Or, go fetch a colleague who might drink red wine? It’s like if we asked what today’s fish is and they say they don’t know because they are vegetarian. We also ordered a bottle of white wine and, as you do, we say it’s for four people. The waiter then said, the glasses are on the table. Yea ok, but often you remove the glasses for new ones that are already on the table. It’s just a rude response.
After they poured the wine in one of the glasses we noticed it had things floating in the bottom. We highlighted this to a different waitress and they just took the glass and went away and came back with a glass. Unclear if it was a new glass as we noticed stuff floating in it still. We highlighted again and the waitress just took the glass and poured out the wine and gave the glass back. Not saying anything or apologizing, as you do to guests in a reasonably good restaurant. So we are now one glass of wine short from the €45 bottle.
Afterwards when we asked for the check we had to tell them that they should exclude the wine they poured out. They tried to say that they can’t change the price since we bought a bottle. So no effort made to try and resolve the problem. They could’ve removed the two bottles of water we bought or the glass of red wine. So we had to tell them to do either of these or just solve it. So they went back and needed to talk to the manager.
Luckily they managed to do the magic trick and remove the red wine for €7.
So over all, pretty bad service and rudeness. But setting and food was...
Read moreThis is a hard review to write because some things were spot on but the food we struggled with.
Let’s start with some of the highlights: we got seated without a reservation (4 people) the restaurant has a great atmosphere our order was taken very quickly and food came out very promptly the entire evening both kids dishes from children’s menus were delicious by both adult and kids standards (my kids ate everything so quickly, I was really surprised) the person helping us brought dessert for the kids after they were done vs waiting for us to finish which I really appreciated the wine recommendation was spot on and desert was very yummy for both my husband and I
Now the challenging parts: both appetisers were not good, ceviche was particularly disappointing as it had no citrus or salt so I left most of it on the plate both main dishes were also not great, my husband ate the risotto as he was starving and nothing else was going to be available but I left most of my stake tartare on the plate I am a bit surprised that the person helping us didn’t say anything as he clearly saw I wasn’t eating my food finally we asked for sparkling water and didn’t get any but got charged for flat water anyway, I didn’t mention anything as 5 Euro was not worth it, but it tells me something about the service
We spent about 200 Euro for this dinner and 40% of the cost was on the dishes we didn’t like. In conclusion, my husband and I did not enjoy the dinner but the...
Read moreWe ate here twice during our stay in Antibes, both times it was excellent. The first night was the day we arrived in France from Canada and my wife and I were both more than a little jet-lagged. We had the daube which was just the ticket to revive us. The meat was flavourful (so many daubes are over done) and yet tender enough to be cut with a fork and the sauce was delicious.
We went back a few days later and I had the panisse followed by the agneau presse. The panisse were everything a good panisse should be, crisp on the outside and tender inside with lovely sauces. The agneau was good, lovely and tender but a slight let down after the daube. My wife had the tenticules de poulpe which were sublime. There is nothing more that needs to be said about them.
Both times we just showed up without reservations and were seated quickly and at nice tables (so different from a lot of the restaurants in the area where tourists get dumped at the lousy tables)
The staff was very pleasant and attentive. If we go back to Antibes this place will be on our list...
