Sushi Shop Antibes Dugommier — Restaurant in Grasse

I was actually very disappointed with this restaurant. From the outside it looks amazing. Inside looks even better. The decor is amazing and it looks like it could be a great place. The menu looks really nice. But it was pretty disappointing.

The food was not very good. Maybe I'm a little critical but I've eaten great sushi and this was not it. Part of the issue is the women making the sushi work hard to make it fresh, then it gets boxed and put in a fridge so it's not fresh. Why have people make it on the spot to put it in a fridge? I got a 50 euro box that looked great in the pictures but it came in a box and was not as good as it looked. There was a roll with fois gras that could never be made again and I would be okay with that.

Staff was not very attentive. As nice as the place looked there was plastic spoons and the soy sauce bowl was plastic...it's the small things. There was something in my water. There was a dog jumping on someone else's table and jumping from chair to chair....and when that group left the staff did not clean all of that up. (yuk...I know where not to sit)

I managed to get Vegetarian Ramen by going in person and asking them to swap out the Poulet (Chicken) for two oeuf ajitsuke (soft boiled Eggs). I believe the broth was vegetable based. It was quite tasty and hearty! At first the cook said they were out of egg, and when I said I'd still take it without any chicken, I got the French "does not compute" reaction with "but then there will be nothing left!", and to his credit the guy didn't want to charge me for chicken I wasn't getting, so I asked if he could maybe apply a discount and he found he could. I left the the discount as a tip, in gratitude for accommodating my outlandish vegetarian ways! By the time I'd paid and was off to wait a moment for it to be cooked, I overheard the cook say (in French) "I gave him two eggs to replace the chicken", so he'd found and cooked a couple eggs. You can either order for take out/delivery or have lunch/dinner on site. The room is nice and the restaurant offers a great choice of sushi combos. Quality is good, food is fresh and tasty. Now depending on the day, it often happens that the young staff is not paying attention to the people seating in the room and you can be left there waiting for ever. We even got forgotten once. So the best is to go check at the counter and remind them you're there waiting for someone to take your order or waiting for your order.
