Brasserie Campion in Lille is an absolute gem — a place that captures the soul of northern French dining with charm, warmth, and a touch of playful elegance. From the moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in a cosy, welcoming atmosphere where the buzz of conversation and the glow of soft lighting make everything feel instantly right. Even the quirky water jugs add personality and a wink of humor to the table.
The food, though, is where Brasserie Campion truly shines. The leek starter is deceptively simple yet beautifully prepared — tender, flavorful, and full of freshness. The oxtail and tongue terrine is rich and layered, a perfect blend of rustic comfort and refined technique. The tarama is silky, airy, and deeply satisfying, while the rump steak arrives perfectly cooked, juicy, and brimming with flavor — the definition of brasserie perfection.
What elevates the experience even further is the excellent wait staff — warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. They move with ease and genuine care, always ready with a thoughtful suggestion or a friendly smile.
Brasserie Campion is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with Lille all over again — heartfelt food, great wine, and a spirit of generosity in every detail. A must-visit for anyone who believes dining should be both comforting and...
Read moreI reserved a table in advance as I knew this restaurant could get busy on weekends. Even though I arrived early and had a booking, I still had to wait a bit for the waiter to assign me a seat. The atmosphere was lovely, with a bright dining area thanks to the skylight, and I really enjoyed being able to watch the chefs prepare the food through the open kitchen.
I ordered the steak, which was served with homemade French fries and their house Béarnaise sauce. To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the steak — I asked for medium rare, but it turned out closer to medium well, which made it quite tough and hard to cut. I had to slice it into small pieces just to eat it. The fries were fresh and the sauce was unique, though I can’t say it was particularly tasty for me.
What truly impressed me, however, was the dessert – the Paris-Brest, which is one of the restaurant’s specialties. It looked like a cream-filled puff pastry with roasted hazelnuts, and the flavors were absolutely perfect. The fresh cream and nutty flavor balanced very well, and it wasn’t overly sweet. I would definitely recommend ordering this dessert...
Read moreMy wife and I had a wonderful meal following a long day driving from Bremen in Germany on our way home to the UK. We just wanted a steak and bed. The hotel recommended the Brasserie Campion and we were absolutely delighted. We were welcomed by the very friendly staff who all spoke English far better than I can speak French. We had the dog with us and he was made to feel just as welcome. I had a local beer, my wife a Negroni and they brought a bowl of water for the dog. We shared a small plate of Sliced Comté before my wife had the Melon et Jambon and I had the Leeks in Vinaigrette which was deliciously elevated by the inclusion of roast hazelnuts (see picture). My beer was soon replaced by another beer and my wife moved on to a glass of the red. This was accompanied by an Entrecôte with Bernaise Sauce and a fabulous potato dauphinois. Absolutely fantastic. Despite my hankering for a steak I was swayed by the special of the day which was a Blue Lobster Caesar Salad with Bacon. Quite immaculate (see picture). We were too full for desert, so we skipped out at that point with change from €120. I would highly recommend...
