Les Compagnons de la Grappe — Restaurant in Lille

We had gone to this restaurant twice during our studies at Lille's Catholic university. I honestly love the location, the food is incredible, and the service our first time was top class.

But... We went here with a slightly larger group than the first time and were greeted kindly and treated well for arriving early until the waitress came to the table with an incredibly terrible attitude. This woman (short black hair, glasses, piercings along her ears), was angry from the start. We are American students who can mostly speak French even if not perfectly, and can normally get by. Immediately she angrily stated that she, "doesn't speak English", after one of us ordered in French. Then, after forgetting several drinks that were ordered (mind you, she didn't bother writing anything down), she rudely mocked our best French speaker when he attempted to fix the problem and explain we needed drinks yet. This server had such a bad attitude that she slammed plates on the table and glared at us from afar to make sure we knew she was displeased with our business. A group of tipping Americans doesn't seem like the worst customers to have before the night even gets busy. 10 Americans with a bill of $250 pretty much guarantees a server $50 or more depending on the quality of service. Then, when we were going to leave, this woman had the audacity to push one of us out the door so that she could serve a different table. No, "excuse me" or "pardon". Just physically shoving a small girl out of the way down a step. Needless to say we begrudgingly didn't tip her a single cent and would like to hope that this review will get this terrible server fired. As far as I can see, the server is lucky our friend didn't fall and get injured. We could have easily charged her with assault.

Again, the food here is great and the previous servers were excellent. But this one woman ruined our night celebrating the end of our school session. She deserves to be fired and should probably never work a service job if she cannot handle being pleasant while working. As a server in the United States, I would have been fired on the...

This was an amazing display of French/Lille cuisine. The dish in question “Welsh au Maroilles” or “Welsh Rarebi was beautifully done, especially if you’re a lover of cheese.

The perfect dish for a cold winters day; the wine was also as per usual delicious. However they have a good selection of local beer too.

Definitely a popular destination for both locals and tourists and the customer service was excellent!

C’était une superbe démonstration de la cuisine française et lilloise.

Le plat en question, “Welsh au Maroilles” ou “Welsh Rarebit”, était magnifiquement préparé, surtout pour les amateurs de fromage.

Le plat parfait pour une froide journée d’hiver ; le vin était, comme toujours, délicieux. Cependant, ils ont également une excellente sélection de bières locales.

Un endroit très populaire auprès des locaux et des touristes, et le service client était excellent !

Dit was een geweldige presentatie van de Franse en Lillese keuken.

Het gerecht in kwestie, “Welsh au Maroilles” of “Welsh Rarebit”, was prachtig bereid, vooral voor kaasliefhebbers.

Het perfecte gerecht voor een koude winterdag; de wijn was, zoals altijd, heerlijk. Ze hebben echter ook een goede selectie lokale bieren.

Een populaire bestemming voor zowel de lokale bevolking als toeristen, en de klantenservice was uitstekend!

This charming restaurant is an oasis of peace, hidden in a lively Lille. The entrance to Les Compagnons de la Grappe is a little difficult to find, but there are some signs to find it.

Once inside, you will be rewarded with an enchanting atmosphere. The courtyard garden is lit with coloured light bulbs, creating an intimate, almost Zen-like experience - perfect for a cosy dinner or a relaxing evening with friends.

We went for the Welsch, a bold but surprisingly tasty choice. The menu seems to offer an interesting mix of local and creative dishes.

The staff are attentive to the pleasant atmosphere, striking the right balance between service and privacy.

A modern plus is the flexible payment method: opt for the practical QR code at the table to pay the bill or let the staff traditionally serve you.
