I recently visited Huitre Brûlée which I was excited about since it’s in the Michelin Guide. Booking a table online was easy, setting high hopes for the evening.
The dinner started great. The seviche and gazpacho were amazing, full of flavor and beautifully made as well as one main course. But my partner’s main course - mackerel- was a letdown. It was so sour that we couldn’t taste anything else.
The service had its ups and downs. They poured our champagne the first time, but after that, I had to pour it myself. The owner also mishandled my seviche plate, taking the dirty cutlery from the plate herself and dropping it right in front of me. It felt like humiliation. It stayed there until I asked the waitress to remove it (our waitress was ok, she at least made effort to connect with us). I even had to use the napkin for our champagne to clean the table.
This level of service felt more like a cheap street food experience than a Michelin-listed restaurant. Overall, the appetizers were fantastic, but the service left much to be desired.
For a place in the Michelin Guide, I expected better consistency in both food...
Read moreOh my goodness, we visited this lovely restaurant several weeks ago and it was truly wonderful. If you want to eat exquisite food in an un-pretentious setting then book a table here. Everyone was friendly from the talented cook, who said hello when we entered, to the staff serving the tables. From start to finish, it was exceptional and I don't say that casually. It was such a culinary treat for us and even our fussy 15 year old dared to try guinea fowl which she said was delicious (high praise from her...). I had a monkfish creation which i'm still dreaming about. My husband has St Jacques which were perfect. I had to ask for a spoon to tidy off the green bean starter because the sauce was too delicious to leave! I think you'll be getting the message by now.... The food was exquisite and brilliantly conceived and put together. We are still thinking and talking about it, 2 weeks on! Thank you for finding us a table and letting us taste your wonderful creations. I would travel to Honfleur just to eat here again. Thank you, thank you!! Jo,...
Read moreWe were so excited to come here for dinner given the rave reviews, but were really disappointed with the food and experience.
Firstly, just to receive our first course (the oysters) it took about 45 mins. Between our first and second course, another wait of 30 mins. The menu itself was very limited and most people had reservations, so this excessive waiting time didn’t make sense. We were not the only ones impacted by the long wait.
In terms of the food, our main courses arrived lukewarm and the steak was unfortunately tough, when it should have been a very tender cut of meat. There was also a lack of consistency between the serving sizes between different tables. For instance, the tables beside us had an ample serving of mashed potatoes and we had about 2 tablespoons. We also didn’t enjoy our white wine, which was weirdly fizzy. The red wine was also not good, and rather than being charged for a glass, we were incorrectly charged for a whole bottle.
Unfortunately due to above, we wouldn’t come back or...
