we had such a nice initial experience here coming from Canada. Although we speak french, they immediately assumed we spoke english which wasn’t a huge offense since staff were very friendly and spoke very well in english. it is a very unassuming fine dining experience coming out of an airstream in a beautiful, dog friendly seating area. they didn’t have much space at first so they told us to wait in the beautiful garden with aperitifs until our table was ready. we never received them because we were shortly seated in a nice table near some friendly dogs nearby at another table. we ordered the white martini as an aperitif and a glass of white wine each, the truffle arancini, and two lobster rolls which were all very well presented and tasted pretty good. i would wish there was more actual lobster in the roll, and coming from canada, eating a lobster roll with a fork and knife did seem kind of weird and a bit pretentious.
i think we just had a bit of bad luck on our side because just as our dishes came out at the same time, we had a reserved table come in sit right next to us. they were very snobby talking about us in french and the food that was too gourmet and pretentious for them - how they were surprised to see someone coloured at such a fine dining place. it made us very uncomfortable since we speak french since they were constantly making snobby comments about us assuming we don’t understand french. we left early after finishing the amazing dishes and drinks were finished and were very upset afterwards.
in sum, this is a very good place to eat with good staff and service. the atmosphere and older demographic who arrive are a bit tense and are sometimes judgmental tourists against tourists in an ironically tourist area. i understand this shed of bad luck is something uncontrollable for the staff of this restaurant, but it is something to note for the general atmosphere and environment to be aware of, especially for young travellers who don’t speak french. i was very close to giving this place a 5 star review, or a close 4.5 stars if google allowed...
Read moreFantastic! Gourmet food from a cute little food truck with seating and table service on a pretty and posh terrace. We had the Bao bread with pulled pork and the Puff pastry burger with foie gras, and both were delicious! Even though we were content, we ordered another plate of the pulled pork because it was too good! The chef and waiter were both friendly and with a great sense of humor! (And speak English too) I'm American and this was the first time in five years in Europe that I've tried a pulled pork that satisfied me, let alone amazed me. The price is also very, very...
Read moreWe ate dinner in May 25. It is a posh food truck in the gardens of the Manoir. We had the puff pastry foie gras burger and the bao buns with pulled pork and the baked camembert with garlic. Presented well but tasted exceptional. Service was friendly and prompt. Worth the 5 mins walk from the main tourist restaurants....
