Went there expecting an extraordinary meal paired with wines from our favorite region in France on our last night in Lyon before leaving to Dijon. What we got was disconnected service, with lukewarm food, paired wines that were served well after the courses were presented, and skimpy wine pours for what we were charged. Our servers knew we were challenged in French and had English speaking staff that could easily have walked us through the meal, yet insisted on giving us the courses in French.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s no prejudice here when it comes to the French and haute cuisine. I’d move to this country in a hot minute if I could. But this restaurant really needs to get it act together. It seemed as if the staff was slightly drunk, and couldn’t figure out who was getting served what. I don’t know if it was an off night, but it was extremely disconcerting. At the end of the meal we had to ask to get the check and were told the credit card machine was down, so we needed to go downstairs to the front desk, after waiting for an eternity to get the bill. Again, we know how French service is, but seriously....and when we ran the overpriced bill (relative to the level of food and service rendered) the madmoiselle turned on her heels and didn’t say a thing, leaving one of their servers to explain that their machine wasn’t printing tickets so we didn’t have anything to sign. Huh?!?!
Seriously, I’ve eaten in a lot of high end places but this one was truly an odd experience. Don’t waste your...
Read moreThe restaurant is very well decorated. As soon as you enter you will notice the wall of wine bottles ... and you will understand the main focus of the lunch/dinner ... WINE
I choose "menu degustation" and it was very good, I had a few appetizers, a main course and the dessert. All the dishes were very well prepared and special attention is given to the different ingredients. Good for you eyes and your mouth. Do not expect big portion, but at the end of your course ... you will be full.
The selection of wines is impressive, the menu has several pages (it is 3 times bigger than the food menu). If you are not an expert the sommelier will be happy to help you to pick a wine you like.
The restaurant is not expensive. For a menu, a glass of wine, water and coffee I paid 50 euros. But it depends what type of wine you take and how much you drink ;)
The restaurant is quite small, if you go there for a dinner make a reservation in advance.
It is located close to the market by the river, I found easily place to park the motorbike ... if you have a car look for a parking place close by. It will be difficult to find a spot...
Read moreOur experience was soured due to the sommelier being basically uninterested in serving us or anyone else. His brother or cousin or friend or someone was in with a party of three others and that meant that how the matched wines were to be consumed with the food was not explained at all, i.e. some of the wine was to be drank with two courses. That is fine, we have done that a few times but it is always explained, that was annoying. The two waiters we had, who were very young, were great. They were speaking English to us and trying really hard - they were great. The food was amazing - zero complaints about that. The signature blue lobster was fantastic, the foie gras superb and the red mullet incredible. But, if it says 5 wines, and 5 courses, unless it is explained explicitly that this is not the case I think it is a fair to assume that. Shame, it ruined an otherwise...
