In a city known as a culinary mecca, restaurants are abundant. So many choices, so little time. You will, of course, want to try a traditional bouchon or two and perhaps a Michelin starred choice if that's your thing. However, if you want to experience part of a new generation of hip chic spots, swim upstream to Le Crazy Salmon.
The most consumed fish in France is not the cod or Pike, as one may think. Salmon is king, and as might have guessed by the restaurant's name, it is the star of the show.
We swung big to start our dinner going for not one by two salmon samplers- the Samon Tasting Plate and the Crazy Sharing. Hard to pick a favorite but the Salmon Rilletts and the Smoked Samon we excellent. I have to emphasize ALL the fish there is sushi-grade and extremely fresh.
We also sampled the Flambeed Salmon Skewer, which is as visually appealing to the eye as it is to the taste bads. Come on, during fire tableside. There's a reason tappenyakis are so popular.
We reached our salmon limit at that point, but the Seard Scallop Risotto need to be tasted, ok inhaled. The chef's risotto was perfectly cooked while allowing her scallops to shine through pop in your mith with every bite.
Matching the food, was a talented bar staff slinging hand crafted cocktails, pouring wine from an impressive list.
Service was very professional, attentive yet non-obtrusive. We can't want for our next trip to Lyon. In the words of Arnold,...
Read moreThe restaurant itself looked nice, was fairly busy but unfortunately (maybe because it was late) it was quite hard to get the servers attention.
Food wise, I had the Salmon taster (€17.90) which is meant to Smoked, tartar and gravellax but I was served 2x smoked and 1X tartar and not a word was said. It tasted decent enough but not what I ordered.
I shared a 50cl of wine (€9.50) which was fine but then came the worst part for me, the crème brûlée (€6.20). First of all the translation was quite funny (Burn cream) but the desert tasted/had the texture of scrambled eggs with burnt sugar on top. Easily the worst I’ve had in France so far (I was previously in Cannes, which was excellent, so maybe a hard comparison).
So overall, I can’t recommend this restaurant but if I was only after smoked salmon it would have...
Read moreWOW! This place totally blew us away and exceeded expectations. The salmon quality was unbelievably fresh and delicious. The salmon tartare must not be missed. While we did come here for the food, the drinks elevated the experience even more. The bartender Badis is a real artisan. We started with bourbon drinks on the menu and as our meal continued we tried his recommendations and were somehow even more impressed. He is so passionate and you are certainly in very good hands if you’re dining here. It’s also no problem if you only speak English, and they seem happy to teach you a few phrases in French as well. Do not skip this place on your visit in Lyon. By far the best bartender we have encountered so far after over a...
