I was really looking forward to trying Chez Mamie, especially since I'd heard great things about traditional Lyonnais bouchons. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The service was inattentive and unfriendly, which set a negative tone for the entire meal.
But what was even more disappointing was the food itself. As someone who's passionate about trying local specialties, I was excited to dive into Chez Mamie's take on traditional Lyonnais cuisine. Sadly, the dishes I tried were a pale imitation of the rich, bold flavors I experienced at other bouchons in Lyon.
The food lacked depth, seasoning, and overall finesse, making it feel like a watered-down version of the real deal. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to visit other bouchons during my stay in Lyon, which redeemed the experience and showed me what I was missing.
Service-wise, while I understand that bouchons are meant to be casual and rustic, the service here felt more like neglect than charm.
Maybe I just caught Chez Mamie on a bad day, but I wouldn't recommend it based on my experience. There are better bouchons in Lyon that offer both delicious food and warm...

Sadly, the table beside us was exceptionally loud. I mean excessively loud laughter and banter with another table. No effort by the staff to get them to calm it down a bit - their excuse, it's Rugby. No, it's not. It's rude, ignorant, and inconsiderate customers. Some of the other table were obviously rugby players (or ex- players), but they were not the ones creating the volume!
Left without our dessert, as we'd both got a headache from the volume. I'm sure it's fine at any other time, maybe.
Meanwhile, the food was meh, salad old, very brown and tasteless. Pate was nice enough, but toast was rock hard, salad served with the main of ravioli was not touched by us, as it was as bad as the starter. Pasta was probably the best part of the 2 courses. đ
No, I wouldn't recommend it. The service was poor, and the food...
Read moreWell, I was disappointed with my experience and I wouldnât recommend it especially if you have a stroller.
The restaurant is very busy, but kind of tight trying to max out the number of tables. Itâs not stroller friendly, they gave us a table near the door and it felt we were on the way as the waiters and customers moved in and out. They also put someone next to our baby who was sick, sneezing and coughing and we had to ask to them to move us to the other side of the door.
Food wise, the onion soup was good as well as the pike fish pie. The beef tartare is not my thing, but I have to give them credit because they did it right and I didnât get sick eating some of it (itâs raw beef).
This was the priciest meal we got on Lyon and I honestly do not think...
