Le Winch — Restaurant in Lyon

One of the few places in the heart of Lyon where you genuinely get good value for money. Unless you want fast food or a snack you can expect to pay in excess of €20 for pretty much any standard main. A set menu will be more like €40. Which is fine if you feel the dish and atmosphere lives up to it. The layout of the restaurant was really cool, we luckily got a table on the balcony upstairs overlooking the restaurant below. The atmosphere on Saturday night was really nice lots of conversations and the buzz of the bar below. The staff were lovely despite some obnoxious Americans complaining and moaning about everything they were very polite and handled it well. There was a real mix of languages and cultures which makes me think that locals also eat here despite being in a more touristy area. We had the set menu and my fish was amazing. Visited based on reviews. Expected good things but was let down. Staff are lovely and friendly, and very attentive. Wine is also very nice. We ordered the calamari, which we expected would be delicious, based on Lyon's reputation as being a haven for foodies. Sadly it was that awful onion ring style of calamari that you'd pick up in a cheap British wetherspoons. I'll be honest, the mains were very nice (I had the duck and colleagues had steak) but we spent the time prior to the mains arriving anxious as we thought we'd made a terrible mistake with our choice of restaurant. It kinda ruined the whole night for us, and that one terrible dish made us all decide on offering an overall 3 stars.

Local bistro in Lyon, serves traditional food however would not recommend calamari as it is definitely cooked from frozen due to the texture. Food is ok but I would not expect something exceptional. Traditional dishes served with wine on the tap are available as well.

The atmosphere has interesting interior decor however can be quite busy and noisy so could be challenging for an intimate dinner.

Staff service could be better, while the blonde lady was friendly and showed good service. The brunet lady behind the bar could be seen being on her phone and served customers with a somewhat attitude giving off the impression that she didn't actually want to be there. Something to note...
