Cô Bày — Restaurant in Marseille

I saw a Marseillais food blogger on Instagram giving a very good review about Cô Bày and when I saw the restaurant while I was having errands in the Castellane area I told myself "It's easy to get there, I must return and try it!" So I did: I came with my husband and our 8mos old son and I can say I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about the experience. First of all the ambiance: it gives chill and exotic vibes and gave me the feels of immersing myself in Miss Saigon theatrical scenography. The service is superb, perfect in every detail. But the best part, of course, was the food. One of the things that impressed me when the food blogger talked about this resto was that the Chef is a woman that put all her passion on giving her personal interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine and let me tell you, you can feel all the love and dedication she had in reinventing these dishes. Everything we ordered was beautiful to the eye and most of all an explosion and perfect mix of different flavors that took the most famous foods of Vietnamese culinary tradition to another level. From entrée to dessert everything was so tasteful and special and also the excellent quality of the ingredients was evident. We even met the Cheffe and beyond cooking so extraordinarily, she is also really sweet and kind, and same goes for the staff that served us. I can't wait to come back bringing our friends with us. Incredible Vietnamese restaurant with authentic flavours and updated twists to class dishes. My husband and I are Chinese and Vietnamese (respectively), and we had been craving some quality Vietnamese food in the south of France (which, in our experience, was very hard to come by!). Cô Bày made us proud, as Asian diners, to taste such respectful and thoughtful tributes to Vietnamese culture.

We ordered l’Assiette des Calanques, Banh Xeo, and Com Suong Nuong. The pork was one of the best pork dishes we’ve ever had—juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The crepe dish was an excellent medley of textures—a feature of strong Asian cuisine; crispy, fresh, and tender at the same time. Très jolie découverte. Je suis très exigeante avec les restaurants asiatiques en général, étant moi-même vietnamienne, mais j’ai été agréablement surprise !

Le phó était INCROYABLE. J’avais l’impression de déguster celui de ma grand-mère lorsque j’étais enfant. Un régal. Si vous êtes asiatique, demandez plus de sauce tung (barbecue) ainsi que du ngo gai et du basilic, car ils en mettent peu. Mais c’était de loin le meilleur phó de restaurant asiatique que j’ai pu manger ! (+ nous avons demandé de mettre la viande à part, mais normalement elle est servi directement dedans)

Les ravioles étaient bonnes mais sans plus, cependant le dessert était abominable (avis personnel), surtout à cause de sa texture granuleuse à l’intérieur. Étant hypersensible, cela a été difficile pour moi, et j’ai dû trier mon assiette. Toutefois, en termes de goût, c’était bon et j’ai tout fini, sauf cette partie granuleuse qui, selon moi, était de trop.

La dame qui sert est adorable, toute mignonne, et le serveur qui l’aide à apporter les plats est très gentil et on a pu rire. On a d’ailleurs pu essayer des cocktails, j’ai beaucoup aimé..j’ai même adoré le fait que ce soit un véritable jus de coco avec des MORCEAUX ENTIER de coco, et non la cannette, ça aussi, ça m’a rappelé ma mamie (bon on les a mangé avant de prendre la photo, oops).

OH ! Et l’idée de l’amuse-bouche est originale, ajoutant une touche élégante au restaurant. Bien que la nourriture soit traditionnelle, la présentation des plats est très moderne et jolie. Un petit plus appréciable.

Nous reviendrons pour essayer le barbecue la prochaine fois. PS - j’aime l’idée d’écrire sur les murs...
