Ikal — Restaurant in Montpellier

Visiting from California and heard this place was a must-visit restaurant in Montpellier. This restaurant exceeded my expectations! The explosions of flavor on beautifully and delicately plated dishes provide a gastronomic experience in a friendly atmosphere. Ikal is a beautifully decorated restaurant on a lovely cobblestone street of Montpellier with thoughtfully curated menus based on local and organic ingredients. Kind and friendly service, the owner Berangere went above and beyond to explain the dishes, each bursting flavor, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed my meal so much I returned for their lunch menu before leaving, and was again in culinary paradise. Some of the highlights were the octopus (which I don't always like but I've never tasted octopus with such a perfect texture and flavor) and the riz au lait for dessert. Loved everything about our time at Ikal. Great service and a charming atmosphere. The owners are caring and clearly put so much effort into curating a great menu and experience. The food was thoughtful with a depth of complex flavors that created dishes which showcased the skill, experience, and creativity of the chef. Lovely restaurant with a VERY good wine list. Great to see a limioux Chardonnay….. you need to drink more of this guys. It’s fresh crisp….
