We went out with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. We had been pondering restaurant options in Montpellier, and Angelus clearly stood out owing to its stellar reviews, photos of beautiful dishes, and also straightforward answers to Maps users. The restaurant itself, hidden away from the noisy city center, welcomes customers with its intimate, classy, yet homelike atmosphere. The personnel are friendly and professional. The menu is brief but exciting, with unique and unexpected recipes. We had decided to go for full menus (starter, main course, and dessert), and we got our money's worth - its every cent's. The food was prepared and delivered to us at perfect pace and at the same time. It was delicious and flavourful, the presentation was impeccable, and the portions were exactly right. This is a restaurant that not only leaves you satisfied and full, but also offers excellent service and delivers a plethora of new spectacular taste combinations. If you are looking for a special place to celebrate - this is THE place. Hey, I have better one: this is an institution, like Savoy or Benoit, yet distinct and recognizable. A true hidden gem. Thank you for a...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews online we decided to book a table for 8 of us to celebrate my parent's visit. I can confirm that the food was okay but the service was awful. Having asked for a menu in English we were told that they'd just changed the menu and that they only had English ones for the summer. Then jibes about Brexit followed "you'll have to learn French soon". We let it slip and asked for help with the menus that were in French so that we could understand, the server couldn't help us so we were told to make do. After ordering we then waited for 1 hour without bread, water or explanation, when I asked for some bread the manager came to explain to us they had 2 other large tables - okay but don't just leave us hanging. We finished the meal but when paying the manager made more Brexit jokes - which made us feel awkward and we left feeling miffed having spent a considerable sum of money in his restaurant. I advise you to think twice before booking here -...
Read moreVery nice environment in the middle of the old center of Montpellier. Even the local looks like to be inside in a very old building. The decoration is accurate and very according with the local. The service is perfect, so nice, friendly and paying attention to all your needs. And last, but absolutely not least, the food! So so good, elaborated, so tasty and amazing presentation. The dishes are original, using season and local products and offering vegan and vegetarian options. They are also offering a mise en bouche with the apero. The wine offering is also completely local, even having a suggestion from a small bio cave. The only negative (but not really) part is that there menu is very short, but honestly is compensated with the quality of the dishes and the fact that they are changing the menu often. We have payed 47€/each with 2 dishes + wine and apero. Very...
